I will be AT the Portugal-Mexico game, so obvious choice for me. Even if I wasn't, it'd be Portugal.

ya im at the toronto games so i dont have a choice either. i'd be more interested to see who canadians of portuguese heritage would cheer for if canada played portugal (hypothetically speaking). my background is scottish, but if scotland played canada i'd without doubt cheer for canada. i dont get why some ppl (not pointing fingers here, just generally speaking) pretend that they're not canadian. 2007 is a turning point for canadian football, lets get everyone on board!!!! Go Canada Go!!!!

If Canada-Portugal played, I would cheer for Portugal.
Also, who the hell are you to say people are pretending to not be Canadian? Do I pretend to not live in Mississauga? Do I pretend to not pay taxes to the Canadian government? Do I pretend to not know the English language and just speak in Portuguese?
Here's a thought.
"Pretend" the oncoming traffic underneath the bridge is actually a pool, and jump.

This is a public forum and I can do anything I want. I just stated what I'll be doing and thats that. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with what I said.

In all honesty, were Canada to play Portugal head-to-head, I'd be cheering for Canada. Why? Because: A. Canada is my birthplace and where I choose to make my home, so cheering against my country just doesn't feel "right"; and B. Canadian soccer needs the win much more than Portuguese soccer does. :D

go canucks!I'm American but I'd share the same sentiment. We have so many Euro ******** over here that refuse to follow the USMNT despite being born here, living here, and not even knowing the language of their team. It's always Italians and Portuguese. I wish we had more people like the two Portugeezers who are real Canadians *applause*

There are many thousands (maybe millions) of people in the world, including many North Americans, who fell in love with the Brazilian team without ever having been to Brazil, knowing Portuguese, or knowing who the Brazilian captain is. I don’t think they are “stupid” or any less patriotic for feeling that way, unless of course it’s Brazil vs. their country and they are still rooting for Brazil.
all I know is if canada played my home country I'd go for Canada...
And what exactly does this have to do with the kid? You said it yourself: he was rooting for Portugal against, what was that?, New Zealand. A Canadian of Portuguese – sorry, “Portugeezer” - heritage rooting for Portugal against New Zealand – the nerve.

What's with the giant font? Relax.
If you're going to support a country you should have at least some knowledge of the squad...not knowing who the Captain is is stupid.

No it isn't.
I watched that particular game on the tube; I didn't know who the captain was then and I still don't know. Maybe that makes me a bad Portuguese fan, maybe it doesn't. Anyway, that is completely irrelevant to this topic.
I noticed a certain anti-Portuguese feeling in the air and decided to drop by and write a line or two. ;) Is that ok? And is it ok for a Canadian with Portuguese background (I'll assume that's what the kid was) to cheer for the "Old Country"? Great. I knew you Canucks were a tolerant lot.
PS: The font looks the same on my screen. But hey, I'm a newbie AND a Portugeezer, so what do I know?
