I am saddened by the fact that there isn’t one thread here dedicated to the brave troops of Iran who defended Iran with their blood during the 8 year war with Iraq . Lets not forget , if It wasn’t because of them , the Persians culture and history could have been practically destroyed . Here are some photos dedicated to their service and bravery to our country .

Great thread.

Thanks for the videos , specially the first one . The war ended 19 years ago but it seems like a lot of Iranian are forgetting about the sacrifices that some of us made . While kids in the West couldn’t wait to watch a new movie our kids couldn’t wait to go into the front lines of the war , that’s the bravery that you cant find anywhere in the world . We had the young and the old volunteering to fight , some of them had little or no weapons to fight with but they still wanted to fight the enemy . Its sad that only a war brings the best out of us .

It is sad that any Iranians, Iraqis, and/or any young people for that matter had to die in order to satisfiy some foreign powers' interests.

The same thing is repeating in Iraq now, and if Iranians are not carefull it will spill into Iran.

It saddens me to see the faces in these photos knowing that some of them probably never made it out alive.

There is is no glory in war.

Katie!

I like this one. Reminds me of Diarios de Motocicleta.

I wish there was a story to go along with each, though.

my heart goes to all of them. if only all of them would've done for the sake of "IRAN ZAMIN" not komeini or any akhoond. not ali, hossien or any of those arabic leaders.

and the irony is that yet another arab state was trying to destroy iran. yet another islamic state tried to destroy a superior cultur. no offense to arabic (mulsim or no muslim) posters, but when will iran wake up and notice that islam has done nothing good for it.

Not until this government is removed. The truth is that Iranians were more “Islamic” when the Shah was in power then they are today . This government has done nothing but to hurt Islam .

For once, I more or less agree with valanjak's response. A lot of Iranians are rebelling against Islam because of the current government and the actions of some Muslims elsewhere, but IMO any true patriotic Iranian would recognise the important history of Islam in Iran. Do not cheapen saints who are still sacred to most Iranians who even despise the regime or do not even consider themselves as "Muslims". As an example, a lot of lion references in Iranian history going back to the Ismailis and even before are because of its adoption by the ruling monarch because of its association to Ali. The shiro-khorshid that so many ignorantly praise and in rebellion replace the current logo on the Iranian flag with (because it is Arabic and about the religion as opposed to nationality....) takes its roots from religion (it is not 100% clear because it does become mixed with royalty).

There is much that can be said, but the point is that Iran has had its own "flavour" of shia Islam and suffism and dervishes and so on for a very long time and that is part of a culture that you should be proud of. You don't have to be Muslim, but Iranian to at the very least respect much of what you are dismissing.

Proud of? Why should anyone be proud of Iran’s version of Islam? Being a Muslims is being a Muslim , its doesn’t matter if you’re a shia suffi or what ever , it’s the same $hit different color and there is nothing to proud of Iran’s Islamic history , Iran’s pre-Islamic history on the other hand is one to be proud of .
Its people like you who are holding Iran back , it really angers me to see a Iranian who prefers to live in the UK and NOT IRAN A ISLAMIC COUNTRY to say “ you should be proud” of Iran’s embarrassing and devastating Islamic history . Now BOB , please don’t ruin this thread with the Islamic propaganda , this is a beautiful pure thread that deserves the upmost respect .
