Hi all. My names Greg. Im 20. Ive only played soccer for 4 years, but wish I would have started earlier. For now I only play rec league on tuesday nights, but I would LOVE to play every night if I could only find other leagues around here. I play keeper and when im not keeping, Im a part of the midfield. I do have a funny story, and Im a funny guy, so I may as well share it.
I started playing my junior year of high school. My coach switched me between left mid, and left back, depending on coachs feelings. I had never scored a goal my entire high school career. I played 4 seasons of a competitive rec league, at 8 weeks long a piece in my freshman year of college. Those were mostly goal keeping, but the games I did step up and play mid, no goals. So I figured I was cursed, never to score, and told my feet were too fast. This summer, I catch mono. Well, sorta. I wasnt diagnosed WITH mono, but mono-like symptoms. I sat out 4 of the 6 weeks of our league, missing all but 4 games. The first tuesday night Im allowed to play, something felt different as we split into teams for our pickup game. I finished the night with 4 goals, but I never count those as goals, because its only a pickup game right? Well, our first game... Im at the top of the 18, unmarked. I call for the ball and its played to my feet from the left wing. I settle the ball, take a quick touch with the outside of my right foot, then slot the ball right in between the right post and a diving keepers hand. I was ecstatic. I went on to score 7 goals in those last 4 games, and now the joke is that "if anyone wants to get better, just catch mono."
Anyways. Nice meeting you guys. Hopefully you found the story as funny as the guys I play with do. IF not, ah well... Im not a comedian.
