I didn't watch the game since it wasn't on where I live. But for those who did, I'm wondering why you guys would keep using the same lines/excuses over and over, from reading all of your posts I would imagine Mexico's squad is lightyears ahead of the US. Yet somehow that no-good American team manages to beat the mighty Mexico again. Is there somebody around here who can give an unbiased assesment of the match and/or Mexico's team? Or is that too much to ask?
It just bugs me that almost everyone in this thread is constantly making excuses for Mexico and talking down the US like they are some minnow who doesn't deserve the field they played on. Aren't you supposed to talk UP an opponent who has your number, so there's less shame in the constant beatings?? Please don't take this as trolling or anything, I'm just looking for a little honesty once in a while.
I'll try and give you an unbaisaed opinion:
1. Mexico overall played better than the US (as usual), but US looked more dangerous on the attack (as usual).
2. US can score when they need to, we can't.
3. The penalty in favor of the US was good (legitimate). The forward got past the Mexican defender and the defender took him down with his knee.
4. There could have been a penalty called against the US when Gooch obstructed Omar Bravo, but it was a hard call (until I saw the replay I didn't think it was a foul). Ref mistake, but it happens. It's happened in our favor in the past, and it happened against us, and it'll happen again some day because that's the nature of the Game.
5. I'm 99.9% certain the ref was not paid off. In fact I think he did a pretty good job overall.
6. The US was better than Mexico today at soccer, because soccer involves scoring to win (not playing pretty). The US was better than Mexico as it has been for a long time now since believing an 8 year ,or so, lucky streak, or refs always being paid off, is idiotic and dellusional. Again I define better as winning the game, not playing pretty.
7.Same lame excuses on Mexico's part (fans and players), and its getting old.
8. Time to get up, train harder, and try again. I consider the US to be on the level of European teams (Germany, Italy, etc.) that Mexico has set their sites on to beat (at least from Mexico's perspective, not the rest of the world). Again, the excuses are getting old, and I think we'll do better once we shut up and treat the US with the respect they deserve.
I'll add more as it comes to me.

"Seriously guy...Mexico is not a great team. Mexico is not a "world power" at soccer.
What in the world makes you think that? BC you advanced to the quarterfinals of the WC...yet, only when it was on your home soil. BC for 50 yrs you didn't have to play anyone in CONCACAF as the USA was putrid up until the '90s?
Quit deceiving yourself....Mexico is no more a world power or great team in football than South Korea or Japan are. You are a big fish in the small Concacaf pond and that's it....and even now Mexico is losing ground in that pond to other fish.
As an American, I base my team's victories over truly great teams like you mentioned, but not Mexico. Beating you does nothing for me in raising our profile across the world. It happens too often now for the US. We consistently beat Mexico now so it's not a shock to anyone, nor does it raise our profile significantly...it only reinforces the image that the United States is another good team in world soccer and Mexico is another good team that vastly overrates itself.
All that being said, I was glad to see that each team seemed to restrain from some of the classless instances that had marred previous meetings. Hopefully this will continue...and a very good game played by both teams. I enjoyed it immensely. "
While it may be true that Mexico is not yet a world power, they do have a lot of respect from the rest of the world. And with all due respect to South Korea and Japan, don't even try and place Mexico on thier level.
Mexico has made it past the first round in the past four World Cups, something only Italy,Germany, Brazil and England can say. Yes teams such as Argentina, Spain, Netherlands, France haven't accomplished that. If you look at the other teams that have accomplished that; Brazil, Germany and Italy have twice made it to the WC finals while Brazil has won it twice and Italy once. And England, although always underacheiving, are consistent. Im not saying this automaticaly puts Mexico on the level of a Brazil, Italy, Germany or England, but it isn't an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.

1. I can't believe how bizzare some of the posts expressed in the first thread are. Do you guys really believe that the ref "handed" the game to the US? The linesman and the center both saw the same thing and called the foul for the penalty. On the replay, the contact that brought Ching down is able to be CLEARLY seen.
2. Despite all the lamentation regarding the ref "handing" the US the game, what ACTUALLY changed the game was NOT the penalty, but rather the substitution of Rico Clark for Mastroeni. During the first half, we had no midfield presence because Pablo seemed to only play negative and square balls; moreover, he did not mesh well with Feilhaber. The game completey changed with CLark's presence. FYI, Clark and Feilhaber are the future of the USMNT midfield.
3. Our strikers can't finish--we had two wide-open goals . . . and hit the post TWICe. The US could EASILY have put 5 on El Tri if Dempsey, Beasley, and Ching converted their chances. Shockingly bad finishing for US . . . .
4. Both keepers had incredible games.
5. When will El Tri ever learn that they do not want to give Beasley and Donovan a counter-attacking opportunity? Why do they leave themselves so wide open? Unbelievable . . . .
6. Why the total lack of repsect for the USMNT when the US is 9-2-1 vs. El Tri since 2000 and 8-0-1 on US soil? Those numbers show the total dominance of the US--if the US is such a poor team, what does that say about El Tri?

Hi folks.
I'm not going to come in and troll. I'm sure this loss really hurts - I know I would be in a major bad mood if the USA lost today. I only wanted to come in and say I thought this was a wonderful game for CONCACAF. Both teams played really well - best games of the tourney for both - and it could have gone either way until the goalazo that made it 2-1. I think Mexico was kind of deflated after that (Plus losing Borg really hurt, too).
Finally, I really liked watching a game played at ultra-high intensity - but cleanly, too. Mexico should hold their heads high and good luck in the Copa!

I give you props for being classy dude. You come in here and have only good things to say about our team. Too often do US fans come in here talking about "why don't you give us respect....youre so classless". Well yeah its pretty hard to get respect when youre saying shit like "Mexico is the US' bitch". Im glad to see that not all U.S. fans are hypocritical. Thanks for the props and good luck to you too.

The question is, How do we now he is a Mexican? He is more like an undercover gringo. Mexico was clearly robbed. Everything was set up for the US to win. Remember the last game against Canada???
Wait till Copa America Gringos where it would be clear that the US is not all that.

Yes, yes, Mexico has made it to the knockouts in the world cups, we are all proud of that. The big difference between Mexico and those countries is that Mexico sees it as a great accomplishment, while the other countries expect to make it to the knockouts, and expect to advance even further, which is why they always do, and Mexico is left standing at the curb watching the bus drive away.
As far as an analysis of today's match. I think both teams were very even today. They both generated a handful of very good chances, each had defensive break downs, etc.
Mexico, I believe, took the US by surprise with an element that is not seen in Mexican football: speed. Unfortunately, Mexico expected to have the speed on both sides, but Medina continues to show a poor level of play. He should have been substituted.
Bradley made a good adjustment in the 2nd half by putting in Clark for Mastroeni, who was not playing a full speed and had a card. If a player got behind him, it would have been a red for the foul. Clark helped the US dictate the pace in the 2nd half, which gave the US more chances . It was only a matter of time before the US socred. The penalty was a soft penalty, but one nonetheless.
Like I said earlier, the game was soled when the USA converted their one timer off the corner, and Mexico didn't. In a game this close, it was going to take a play like that to decide the match. It was the US that made the play. Game over.

Yes...where it's clear we aren't attempting to win the tournament with the team we are sending.

I hope you realize that most US fans actually support Mexico when we are not directly competeing against them. For instance, during WC 2006, I was extremely upset at the loss to Argentina. I know that we will be cheering for Mexico to take as many South American teams down as possible.
I guess I hate the fact that our confederation is seen as such a joke by outsiders. I'm all for improving our confederation, having strong teams in our region, and . . . it just seems stupid when fans piss all over each other's teams, instead of being respectful to each other.
I was impressed that Salcido exchanged shirts with Donovan.

By that same token, it's pretty hard to give Mexico respect when Sanchez attempts to slide tackle players after goals, most of Mexico's players refuse to shake hands and exchange shirts with American players, and so on and so forth.
Maybe, just maybe, if more Mexicans were willing to give respect to the US team, they would get more in return.
It's a vicious circle though and hard to break by both sides.
