Sounds like he had a great game in the Gold Cup final. Anyone see it?

it was a very fast-paced, entertaining game with lots of goal mouth action. Mexico attacked relentlessly, but Howard played excellent. He looked in great form

Timmy was on his game. Made a couple obscenely good reflex saves and held together a back four that wasn't all that solid at times.
Hopefully he can carry that confidence over to his club.

He did very well. There were several times in the first half where his back line fell to shambles, but he came up with a huge save.

Timmy's shot stopping in this game was off the charts. Especially in the dying moment. At 90 minutes he made a save on a shot from about 6 yards that to me looked possible only in a video game. Utterly unreal save.
However, I will say that I thought he struggled to control the box today. There were 3-4 balls that he could have controlled easily that turned dangerous because he wasn't decisive enough to come out and clean them up.

Here are highlights from the match. The last highlight is Timmy's save in the 89th minute that saved the title for the US.

Awesome save at the end! Feilhabers goal wasn't all too bad either!

It was spectacular for the moment and the strike was top notch. I just hope its a sign of good things to come. ;)
As to Howard, he definately kept us in the game.

I think Howard, with all due respect to Lescott and AJ, will prove to be one of Moyes' best signings.
I think Sir Alex will probably wish he had kept him.

He already does. Van der Sar is nowhere near Howard. From what I've seen, he's extremely inconsistent, and a lot of his saves are shaky. Howard just plays with so much more confidence.

Kinda interesting that Yobo had one of his best years regarding fewer mistakes. I wonder how much of that had to do with having Stubbs and Lescott with him and how much of it really had to do with having someone like Howard behind him.
When you aren't tight and can relax a bit more on the pitch, you tend to make fewer mistakes. A great shot stopper playing behind you can take the back four to another level of confidence.

Agreed. I play keeper on occasion and there is nothing worse than having a sketchy back line. Adds loads of un needed pressure.

Howard, like the rest of the team looked a little dodgey in the first half. However, he - as did the rest of the team came out completely different in the second half. Some of the stops he made were absolutely world class. The save he made in injury time from point blank range was one of the best I've ever seen. If that save had been made by an English keeper, in a match as important as this one - I'm sure we'd hear about it for years and years to come... anyhoo - Howard is looking like a great signing that can only get better.

If you want it to be talked about for years to come, then keep talking about it. Simple really. But true to form, it was no Gordon Banks against Pelé was it! :p

at the beginning of the season for our blues, howard made some mistakes and then the defense would get all shakey... i believe it may have been sara (i could be wrong) who brought up then that he needed to be more solid and keep the back line together. the more he plays, the more confident he becomes and thus the more confident his defense (whoever they may be) become as well :)
If sir alex had kept him, he wouldn't have gotten playing time, developed his confidence, and become the usmnt keeper that stopped that shot... i think things worked out for the best but i might be a bit biased ;) :p

I'm sure Kusczcak and Foster are good keepers.
If not anyways, SAF would have bought a keeper anyways.

I love Howard and think he is a great shot blocker, but I still get nervous anytime someone sends in a cross.

I think he's good in the air as well however he really messed up and mistimed his jump on the cross against RSL that lead to their first goal. But overall, I think he's got the whole package and could be a really really good GK for years to come for us.
