That really sucks
I was in Bremen watching the Match, Köln played very well - in the first 30-35 minutes. The second goal of Vucicevic was fantastic! He scored from the corner spot!
I guess after the 2-0 Köln simply thought that they will win easily and they stopped fighting. Bremen got way too much open room, they were not being attacked early enough anymore and this resulted in the 2-1.
Actually I was happy that the goal for Bremen happened before halftime, I thought that Daum would find the right words to tell them that this is not an easy match. Obviously he did not find the right words. Köln had a couple more chances in the second half, but no real 100% chance.
It was not looking like that any team would score during the extra time, then Nickenig played a handball - and the penalty for Bremen meant the 2-3 just a couple mins before the end of the match. Köln then was not able to get up anymore. The 2-4 a min before the whistle confirmed this statement as well.
I've taped the highlights - because they are nowhere to be found I uploaded them to my guild's website (http://www.pestilence-and-decay.com/public/DFB-Pokal2007.mpg)

it's unfortunate but far from a catastrophe.
Let's hope our team takes this a a wake up call.
At least they can now concentrate on the goal that really matters,
getting back in the bundesliga

You know how many "wake up calls" this team had last season and never "woke up?"

Rationalization at it's best. You guys have problems. I only hope they can work them out in time to finish in the top three.

True cookiely - but I was very disappointed nevertheless. I left home at 7am and came back at 10pm due to the bad flight connections to Bremen. I had a nice sightseeing day there though - and the weather was wonderful. Only the result was not :p
It would have been a nice thing to reach the final and maybe qualify for the UEFA Cup - but as you said we can fully concentrate now to qualify for the Bundesliga :D
We still can say: And how far got Leverkusen? :D

I used to think positive like cookiely too, but like footy said the alarms have been ringing for a long time. Again one can only "hope" that this is a one off. I still expect them to promote, but I have expected a lot over the last ten years that just didn't happen.

I can understand you guys there have been a lot of dissapointments in the past.
But I also believe that "schlechte Stimmmung" is the ultimate
"Aufstiegs-killer" (sorry for the denglish)
and is one of the reasons we did so poorly in the past.
When I hear that some fans already verbally abused Helmes (manly because of his transfer to Lev next season)
I look fearfully torwards this season.
This year will be one of the hardest 2nd league seasons ever
and we can only make it if we let our team work in quiet and don't make a big fuss after every defeat we may get.

I agree with that, and would add that we also shouldn't get carried away if the team can string together some victories.

I'd just like to start off with a win against St Pauli. I never expected us to win the cup anyway.

Hopefully, they can keep it up.
It seems like every year they start with a win and go down from there.

Good start, hopefully they are a bit more consistent this season.
Did Helmes agree a deal with Leverkusen or am I nuts?

Vox,
Did you see our other thread about starting a North American fan club?

I think Helmes has agreed, but can't sign anything till January. Daum is hoping he can convince him to stay and named him captain.

:) the first 3 points, not pretty but very effect
Helmes made it pretty clear that he will go to Leverkusen.
Our only hope would beLeverkusen going down to the second league meanwhile we get promoted.
:D Which I wouldnt mind at all

unfortunately not right now
Yes but imo Helmes could pull off a "Gomez" once he is in the first league.
In the U21 Helmes was(before he broke his foot) farther in his developent than Gomez.

A "Gomez", I hope that means leading his home club to the top ;)

So are you in the US now?

Where is Benedict XIV or is is XVI?
How are we with the paperwork? If you want, I can get it sorted with some help from our German speakers.
