So, can anyone shed some light on them? Do they have any realistic chance of staying up? I see they havent done much in the transfer market and that is worrying me.

Boucansaud (Troyes)
Eluchans (Independiente)
R.Gomis (Laval)
Nivet (Troyes)
Thébaux (Dijon)

And the tunisian striker Jemaa from RC Lens > excellent for Stade Malherbe ;)

I think I'm with the majority when I say, "Who?" J/K. I think Caen will stay up if Gouffran gets 10+ goals. Or if Costîl takes over as #1 keeper and does what Lloris did for Nice this season.

Caen just signed Defender Karl Svensson from Rangers.

Young kid, 3 year contract, 21 appearances for Rangers.

Sounds good.

Anyone know anything about him?

Wow, I hadn't realized that they signed him. That's impressive, actually. He's an international already, as I think he was in Sweden's WC squad, and he's got a lot of ability. He's the classic Patrik Andersson-type defender. Strong in the air, a bit slow on the ground, but if you accompany him with a speedy partner in central defense, it'll work out very well.

Yeah, I just saw it on mercato365. I hope they can sign one or 2 more players like that.

Hell, sign some Lithuanians. That will make me REALLY happy.

....Or Totti........

Gouffran is the key this year. They also need more speed from their fullbacks. I like Hengbart, but we need more speed.

Midfield has some nice acquisitions, including Gomis, who I like.

And I know a lot of people want Costil to take over at GK, but Plante is solid, and comes up big in situations.

And a wild card may be the young striker Grandin, who scored the best goal for them last year in my opinion, by faking out five defenders a la Ibrahimovic before smashing it home. He is good and fast as lightning.

They were up 2 years ago and went right back down. I hear they are serious about staying up this year. I only hope Gouffran stays the entire year. He has an offer on the table from PSG and several other big clubs in England.

Gouffran may not even begin this year. Wenger wants him at Arsenal for 2 million quid.

That would be horrible.

Edit: Fortin also says that they are done making moves......

Lets see what happens.

Yes, now I'm waiting on the new kit from Nike.

I hope it's nice. I liked the Errea, but things change. . .hopefully for the better.

I actually like the new one. A lot of fans are very against it from what I am hearing.

Can someone write a little something up in the other "So you want to be a Ligue 1 fan?" thread about Caen?

I like the new one, too.Fans are probably against it to preserve tradition.

It has to do with the new one not having the boat on it. At least, that's what the paper said. :D

I prefer the old one, but I understand. New kits, new crest. As long as we stay up I won't care.

No, they have not really. Just say "les Malherbistes" (SM Caen's former name was Union Athletique du Lycée Malherbe).

Good analysis, though I'm not big on Grandin, not now anyway, as in games that I have seen him play for the U-19 team, he can be a bit bullied out of matches. Although having said that, I definitely expect Costil to take over at some point. Yes, he had a horrible game in the Coupe de France, but this is also the guy who was one of the keys to the Euro U-17 championship team, a team that included Nasri, Ben Arfa, Ménez, among others. Also, as a Caen supporter, how can you not like his extending his contract and his commitment to the club?

Anyway on Gouffran, I thought that if Arsenal did sign him, he'd be loaned back to Caen?

As for Costil, yes, I do like him very much. I didn't want to give the impression that I didn't. I think he is going to be a fantastic keeper. But I went to almost every home game last year and Plante is solid. Costil is definitely the future, and could even come in at some point this year, but Plante will help us win now.

As for Grandin, yeah, he can be pushed off the ball and he drifts in and out of matches. However, he is young and I've seen him do some spectacular things. As a trivia note, someone close to the coaches told me that they have nicknamed him "Little Henry" and rate him very high. Maybe my hopes are too high for him, but I think he will be good.

Also, Seube is solid at the back but I do worry about Hengbart. And I hope Lemaitre gets in some games. His speed alone should see to that.

All in all, I think they will stay up. . .barely.

P.S. And yes, I was told that if Gouffran signs, he will stay with Caen this year on a loan.
