Anyone interested in scouting Chile can watch the US-Chile match going on right now at Giants Stadium. Started at 2:15 so about 35 minutes in, have not heard a score yet.

2-0 USA

Robbie Rogers gets behind the Chilean FB and then after he recovers, fakes him to walk into the box and lashes a drive under the crossbar from 12 yards. Toselli should have had it...

A minute later a header loops over Toselli and hits the top side of the crossbar.

FT 2-1 USA

Adu 34'
Rogers 77'
Sanchez 81'

Thoughts on Chile: Defensively they are very relaxed, they let the Americans move the ball around at times without a lot of pressure. Too much space given to the attacker in the defensive third and the FB's at times got caught up field. Physically they are not the strongest, but they are quick. Vidal was making himself quite unpopular in the first half, seems to be the gritty guy for them. Technically they pass the ball well and have good ball control. In the offensive third they like to make the penetrating pass behind the defense. Sanchez showed he is a shifty, tricky little player with the ball at his feet. Thankfully we won't have to play against him!!

Anyways, i'm not nervous anymore. I think we can a positive result with the boys hyped up and buoyed by 20000 fans behind them (minus the Chile fans)...

If we relax and play the ball around without getting reckless and booting up field i think we can build up well against them. Also, Peters should have a field day down the wings. But our backline is going to have to be careful, don't get caught flat-footed and read the play well.

chile didn't really impres me too much. sanchez looks like he has some skill but i think they have a hard time getting around teh bigger defenders in north america... but as we are quite used to, they seem to go down with every little touch so it's something we'll have to be prepared for.

but they didn't seem to build much of a threat at all. and i thought fo rth emost part that the usa played quite well. nice goal by rogers.

You guys shouldn't be too worried about your first game. Even though our last friendlies haven't been played all-out, (the ones against Uruguay were without any slide tackling or head to head jumps to avoid pre WC injuries), Chile's last displays have left me very dissapointed as the football shown has been totally different from that impressive offensive flair, quick transitioned play, and defensive stability that was shown in the Sudamericano(qualifying stages).
If I were Canadian I would worry more about Congo since our wings have been looking awful lately and you guys won't have to deal with 2 very important starters because they are suspended. Since Austria is by far the weakest team in the group, Congo is the only real dangerous opponent because their speed and quick passing could trouble ur defense if you give them too much space for a counterattack. As many of you know, they won the African qualifying stages, here's a vid that shows the highlights of their win against Nigeria which ended 1-0:

I hope both of our teams go past the group stage and hopefully meet again...but that will only occur if we improve our awful current form.
Good luck Canada, you should be able to go very far in the tournament;) !

Congo played the Czechs a few weeks ago and tied 0-0 and lost 2-1.

We played the Czechs on Monday and tied 0-0 before the game was called after 53 minutes due to lightning in Edmonton. We also played them last October in Czech Rep. and lost 2-0, then beat them 2-1.

Thanks for the clip LOS_DE_ABAJO. The Nigerian goalie botched that big time, you cannot allow a shot from 18 yards out to beat you near side like that!

I'm not too worried by this defeat to be honest. I know when the time comes, the guys will step on it. As you said it yourself, there has been a lot of substitutions and rotation of players in the last few friendlies. 'Los De Abajo' you have to remember these guys also started the qualies playing pretty badly but then recovered in the last few games, so even if we draw or loose the first match against Canada, I see this team capable of bouncing back. My original prediction still stands:

Canada 2:2 Chile
