Lake Trout
I'd heard things about these guys and decided to see if I could find some free (and legal) downloads and had success. These guys sound pretty incredible so far. They're out of Baltimore. They're heavy, but they improv a lot. Their site says they're into stuff as far flung as Talking Heads, Steve Reich, Pink Floyd, Aphex Twin, etc. The show I downloaded has them starting off with pure improv. They just walked out and started playing. The second set is songs in a more traditional concert format. These guys seem like they could really be ones to watch.

The Prayer Chain - Mercury
One of those rare instances of a band putting out a phenomenal album when everything else they put out completely sucked. Mercury is probably one of my favorite albums ever, but everything else that band did was unlistenable cheese. Needless to say, most of their fans don't like this album.

Before we went to New Orleans back in February. Granted, Mrs. Nico didn't want to hear it on the way down, but I still got it :D
