The good news is, you can do it all using free software, 0SEx (http://www.cs.buffalo.edu/%7eafaversa/test/0SEx-0.0110a1.sit) to rip the ac3 stream to your HD, mAC3dec (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14479) to AIFF, mp3 or AAC.
Shoot me a PM if you want a step-by-step (it takes a few steps, but not difficult at all) or if you do a google search with the terms "0SEx, AC3dec, DVD", stuff will show up.

There are also software that record whatever your computer is playing, which is a lot easier, but the sound quality isn't as good.

I actually have my top 5 greatest records ever (that i've heard, of course) in rotation in my CD player now.

The Beatles - The White Album
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Apples in Stereo - Doscovery of the World Inside the Moone
Pearl Jam - Yield

(the white album takes up 2, and mine is a 5 disc changer)

When you have those on Shuffle, it's actually a suprisingly good mix.

Big Wu bootleg from exotic Fargo, ND. They'll be playing a couple of shows in Minneapolis this weekend. Should be a good time.

Are you going to the 10,000 Lakes Festival or Family Reunion this summer?

Fargo ain't exotic, I was born there!
