If it's true that Thierry Henry is going to Barcelona for 16 million pounds, how on earth can anyone think that Bent is worth 18 million? There's no comparison between them IMHO.
These inflated numbers for some of the players being mentioned on a daily basis are outrageous, and probably untrue, anyway. That includes Defoe, who should be available for about 6 million...that is, if someone really wants him. After all, he doesn't start for Spurs!

I guess that's what he's worth to Charlton.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!
Maybe the Eggman shoulda gone for Henry instead. Woulda been cheaper!
LOL!!!

Bent has decided to become a Spurs player, accepting £30k per week less than we offered him? according to the Daily Mail, doesn't make any sense to me.

The Daily Mail is so biased and anti-West Ham you would think J. Jonah Jameson was running the rag and Spiderman played left back for the Hammers. A day doesn't go by with at least one west ham bashing.
Bent isn't worth 17 million quid (probably more like 10-12), but he does have many more years left in him than Henry.

So where does that leave Defoe?
Everyone cursed him when he demanded a move so soon after the '02-'03 season, but would any of you like to see him bacK?

Eggy knew that Bent wouldn't join West Ham. It was a ploy to get Spurs to pay over the oddsfor another flop.:D

Makes you wonder how Gunners could sell Henry for that price given the interest in Bent @ the prices we're hearing. I haven't seen any details on the deal, was there a player coming back to Arsenal?

Age has a bit to do with it. Henry is a bit older. Different kind of striker too.
Bent, for some reason, always wanted to go to Spurs. He said as much, long before we were in for him and he knew that Spurs were interested.

Bent at 23 is one of the top 6 English qualified strikers. Henry at 29 is better than Bent will ever be. He is though injury prone and just maybe past his prime. So stepping down to a slower league maybe beneficial to him.
Berbatov is Bulgarian for Bent. This is why Bent by name etc wanted to go to Spuds.
According to Eggy we offered him 40,000 a week but not gauranteed first team football. He wanted more money and first team football.

Scout, does this mean the rumours quoting £75k per week were just paper talk?
Did you read a quote from Eggy stating this? Because there are more than a few people out there that think we offered him the earth and he turned us down for footballing reasons, i.e. he wanted to play for Spurms or there were other things more important to him than the money!!

I know for definate Lucas Neill is on just over 30 k. The papers quoted 70k plus which was absolute bolloxs.
Eggy said in Iceland recently Bent was offered 40k plus win and goal bonus payments. He was not guaranteed 1st team football. He initially was going to accept the offer but i understand was tapped up through his agent. He was told another team would give him 1st team football and match West Hams payment. The other team would be making a bid for him. The other team have not matched Charltons valuation and Bent is in limbo. Some of the wage talk is from Eggy's own mouth subject to 3rd party translation. Some through Lucas Neills contacts and family.
The papers have said we are in for Nugent, we have not bid on him at all. Today they have had Tevez going to Arsenal, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Nothing is happening and they are making up stories.

Well it's no news to us how much crap is in the newspapers. About 80% of it is probably complete fabrication.
I feel better about the Bent deal knowing we offered him about £40k. We seem to be fair game at the moment for criticism about frivolously throwing money around and consequently doing our bit to ruin the game.
There have always been some blanks to fill regarding why Bent turned us down and I think your post fills them Scout.
