Congrats to Armin Veh and Mario Gomez (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/368469/), althought i am shocked,
that Diego doesn´t get it.
Also congrats to Birgit Prinz, who is female player of the year.

Popping in again, this time from Budapest:
im very surprised Gomez got player of the year, i dont think that he did not deserve, its just a surprise considering he was injured for the two most crucial months of the season. Veh was an obvious choice in my opinion.
No posts on the DFB Pokal game here, but from what i have read, it seems we got pretty damn lucky. We went down 1-0 to Wehen early in the second half and witha man less since Meira got a red card. We were able to equalize through a Hilbert penalty but then Gledson got sent off late in the game. Finally in the last minute of the match, Wehen got their second red (making it 4 in total) and Hilbert won us the game with another penalty, though we were not far away from being knocked out. Our performance must increase dramatically in time for schalke. Our two Mexicans made their season debuts in this game, and Marica played the fll match, his first competitive one for VfB. Unfortunately he didnt get his first goal yet.
Regarding Bastruk, it is a shame, but we can deal with it. In Hilbert, Hitzlsperger, Pardo and Khedira we have our four best midfielders from last season all available, so im not too worried. He is not the only player out however, a bigger loss in my opinion is Delpierre who will be missing for most of this month. Gledson and Meira have had a torrid start in their first two games this season, and Tasci is also injured if i remember right, so our defense may be a bit shaky, i hope it wont though.
Im getting really excited about the season opener, shame i wont be back in town yet to go there, but luckily i can watch it on tv here. Ill try and have internet again atleast once before the game, but it s not certain. Im quietly confident that we can get the win, though i won t consider a draw to be a tragedy. However, a loss on the opening day would be a real shame, so hopefully it won t come to that.

Were you maybe born in Transilvania/Erdèly as well (like me)?
No, i was born in Hungary, but a part of my family has roots there, and many of my extended family still live there. I go to Transylvania almost every summer and have many friends and family there so its always cool, though ive never actually lived there.

In some bad news, Gomez will also be out injured for the first match against Schalke, and to make matters worse, it also looks like Cacau will be missing the game as well. It looks like atleast Tasci will be fit to play, but nonetheless the signs arent good ahead of our first game. Here s what our line-up should be with these injuries imo:
------------------Schaefer
Osorio--------Meira-----Tasci----------Boka
-------------------------------------------
----------Pardo----------Hitzlsperger------
--Hilbert---------da Silva-----------Khedira-
-------------------------------------------
-----------Ewerthon/Marica.
The midfield looks sorta weird but that is how we played the last 8 winning games of last season, except now da Silva would be a starter as well in central attacking midfield. Between Ewerthon and Marica i would not be able to choose, since it is almost impossible to tell which one is doing better so far unless one has seen the trainings. Im guessing Veh will go with Marica, assuming Cacau isnt fit and we play with one striker, since marica is the one who played against Wehen. But we will see, either way the fact that the Player of the Year is out injured is a big, big blow for us.

I think that's more like our midfield looked last game:
---------Pardo
---Khedira---Hitzlsperger
Hilbert-------------da Silva
Agree Marica seems to have an edge over Ewerthon atm.
But without much time to adapt to the team playing alone against
Bordon and Kristajic will be hard. Maybe we'll see both?
Anyway we always win at home against Schalke
so it's good Marica gets some playing time.
Can't wait. If I don't move at all time goes by fastest, right?

Dont ask me, my attempts to speed this week through to Friday havent been working well, but hey, now its only 22 more hours!
To be honest i would probably be satisfied if we draw, i just really dont want us losing our first game. If we win, it would be a great start to the season, but with all these injuries its gonna be difficult tomorrow.

Nevertheless, our last three home games versus Schalke:
2005: 3-0
2006: 2-0
2007: 3-0
Now, thats not bad :)

2-2 FT.
Exciting game and excellent opening to the season and showcase for the Bundesliga.
I thought VfB were the better team, but not by much. Kadhira and Rakitic scored two fantastic goals. Neuer made some very good saves and Marica looked very lively.
I don't think you guys are going to be missing Timo too much BTW.

Well, Schalke was so f****** weak offensively that 2 allowed goals make Sttutgart look real bad. I'm so angry that the Slomka's three DM move after half time got rewarded

Considering that it was a lot of question marks on both teams both Schalke and VfB can live with a draw...as for Bundesliga propaganda it was great as always! ;)

My thoughts exactly...
Come away from Schalke with a point on the road, the boys did their job for the week....

I can live with the draw, but I'm still disappointed. We definitely should have won. The first Schalke goal was pure luck while the second was a present by our defense (well executed though by Rakitic).
Still, I was very pleased by our team in general. After the League-Cup and DFB-Pokal games, I thought that we would need more time. But we were good enough, to dominate a full strength Schalke for the most part. I'm especially impressed by Marica, who hasn't been with the team for very long, but who is already better than Lauth and Streller combined. Maybe he is worth those 8 mio € after all

Marica looked pretty good to me. Very lively, and a nice attempt on the fade away header. He and Gomez are going to be very dangerous.

Did we lose?
Also, Khedira's shot looked as if it would have gone in anyway...

Btw, I didn't mean to say that Schalke didn't deserve the point. It's just that Stuttgart was too stupid to hold on to the lead while being the better side.
It was a great game to watch though. I hope that the international audience had the patience to sit through the first half, because the second half was a great promotion for the Bundesliga.
