I notice footyfans fieriness hasnt changed the last two weeks i ve been gone ;)

You know perfectly well that that comment had absolutely NOTHING to do with Timo Hildebrand, so you dont have to try and pretend that you thought it did. In my opinion the shot was clearly saveable, my noting this was not meant to be a personal attack on Schaefer but merely a comment on the only minute of the game that i have been able to see. And the comment would ve been made regardless who was in goal, be it Schaefer or Langer.

As for whether the shot was in fact saveable, well the commentator agreed with me, and i know that may not be much, just another opinion, but even Schaefer HIMSELF recognized in the post game press conference that there is a possibility that he could have saved it. And if he says so himself, well...

And Oliver Kahn once thought he could get to every ball. Was he right?

No. And Schaefer is also not Oliver Kahn.

No. And Schaefer is also not Oliver Kahn.

Doesn't matter. My point is that every good keeper thinks he should have gotten most balls. We just disagree on that. I thought it was a fantastic shot by Ribery that caught just about everyone off guard, including Schaefer.

Of course he's going to say he should have gotten it. What keeper do you know likes to admit he was simply beaten?

Im sorry but as far as i know keepers are much quicker to state that the goals they let in are impossible to save than they are to admit making a mistake. Most goalkeepers admit to making a mistake maximum three times a season, usually less. Some keepers like Enke or Neuer ive never even heard say that they made an error. Maybe because those are two brilliant keepers who tend not to make any errors. But they never pretend to say the goals they let in were saveable.... because frankly no goalkeeper does that.

But whatever, as long as Schaefer keeps a clean sheet against Schalke and does well there, it's all good.

i saw Bayern's second goal in the meantime... pretty poor defending, no one was marking Wagner at all. But then again, our defense has never before lined up as it did against Bayern, so it's excusable.

Here, in the meantime, the kicker ratings of the game against Bayern:

R. Schäfer (5) - Beck (4), Fernando Meira (4,5), Gledson (5), Boka (3,5) - Meißner (5) - Hilbert (5), Khedira (3), da Silva (5), A. Farnerud (5) - Cacau (3)

It seems as though the entire defense, besides Boka, played a pretty terrible game. Kicker's writers must have agreed with me about Schaefer since they gave him a 5, Gledson also had a poor debut for us while meira seemed to be playing way under his ability.
In midfield Meissner, Hilbert, Farnerud and da Silva must all have had pretty terrible games. With Meissner this isn't much of an issue since he surely won't play a huge role in the coming season but the other three players all underperformed in my opinion. Khedira has probably secured a starting spot in the first weeks of the BL since he seems to have performed much better than his teammates. Cacau looks like he did an ok job up front, probably just without enough service.

I also see van Bommel should've been sent off but wasn't. No wonder with that clown Rafati being the referee, but i doubt that would have changed much.

We've encountered very different keepers then. But as you said, whatever. There are better things to chat about.

Hello Schwaben from around the world :)

Wanted to ask how our MVP Gledson from last year is doing with his new team. If it wasnt for him we wouldnt be in 1. BL now. Whenever he missed a game our D looked like a "Hühnerhaufen", or like americans say, organized as a chinese fire drill. :D He sometimes makes some risky tackles but hes a very dynamic player.

Still too early to say how he'll do, but he is on paper our fourth best central defender after Delpierre, Meira and Tasci. He is mainly meant to serve as a backup player though he did get a chance to start against Bayern in the Ligapokal, where he must have played very badly since kicker gave hm a 5, but that's no tragedy, its normal for new players to sometimes need some time to settle in.

I prolly won t be able to have internet access until after the first game this week. Starting with the DFB Pokal, we will be playing against Wehen the coming weekend.

Regardless how many injuries there are and how many players arent fully fit yet, i fully expect us to be able to gain a comfortable win here and start the season in style. We made the final last year, why not try and see how far we can go this year :)

Here is how i would line us up in the first game:
Schaefer
Osorio Meira Gledson Boka
Pardo
Hilbert Hitzlsperger
Khedira
Cacau Gomez

This would be assuming that Delpierre, Tasci and Basturk among others would still be unable to play.

I went to Budapest for a few days, and since then ive been in the city of Targu Mures (Marosvasarhely in Hungarian). Mostly just visiting friends and family and partying. Been fun.

I know both cities, Budapest AND Targu Mures. ;)

Btw: I had a good friend in Sibiu (Hermannstadt) whose mother was German/Saxonian and father Hungarian originally from Targu Mures (like Peter Maffay's family from Kronstadt/Brasov).

Were you maybe born in Transilvania/Erdèly as well (like me)?

Looks like Italian AC Siena is willing to buy Ljuboja. It is said that they are offering 1 million € for him and they want to pay him 0.75 million € per year.
...
BUT (those of you who've been following Ljuboja's path in recent years will know what will follow) this is not good enough for our favorite player. He rather keeps the 1.2 million that Stuttgart pays him annually than playing football.

He already had several offers before last season and during winter break, some of which where probably better than the one by Siena. But he was dreaming of the likes of Milan or Real Madrid.

I mean, he's a good striker, no doubt about it, but he's just such an a$$ (<= the Dollar symbols really fit in well ). It's no coincidence that he got kicked out of two teams (Stuttgart & Hamburg) within one season, despite being their best striker at that point.

He should know by now, that spending a season on the bench (of the second team) won't get him nowhere, especially not to Real Madrid.

Let's hope that he finally comes to his senses and takes the offer. Otherwise, he'll find himself on the street after his contract expires and be a burden on our team in the meantime.

He reminds me of Pantelic. Except, we can't afford to play without him ;) Maybe he should team up with Pantelic (no thanks, the egos on those two would just make Berlin a state of emergency...even Marcelinho would be "damn, I didn't know it was like that." :D

I've just read a hilarious interview with Ljuboja:

German:
Ljuboja: "Geht´s gut?"
Journalist: "Gut. Und selbst? Beim VfB nicht mehr so gut?"
Ljuboja. "Gut. Geht."
Journalist: "Aber Siena wäre besser?"
Ljuboja: "Weiß nicht. Muss sehen."
(Pause) "Ist." (Pause) "Ein." (Pause) "Verein." (Pause) "Ja."
Journalist (kurz vorm Verzweifeln): "Wechseln Sie dorthin?"
Ljuboja: "Muss überlegen. Italien gut. Aber will spielen. Muss mit Verein hier sprechen."
Journalist: "Wann? Heute?"
Ljuboja: "Nicht heute. Morgen, übermorgen. Muss überlegen. Bin nicht schnell-schnell."

My translation [sic]:
Ljuboja: "You're fine?"
Journalist: "Good. And yourself? Not so good at VfB anymore?"
Ljuboja: "Good. Okay."
Journalist: "But Siena would be better?"
Ljuboja: "Don't know. Have to wait and see."
Journalist: "You've been there and taken a look at the club. Did you like it?"
Ljuboja hesitates, mutters and mumbles and produces sounds that reminds you of a grim bellyache or at least of horrible labor pains. Then he says: "Siena." (Pause) "Is." (Pause) "A." (Pause) "Club." (Pause) "Yes."
Journalist (on the edge of despair): "Will you move?"
Ljuboja: "Must think about it. Italy good. But want to play. Must talk to Club here."
Journalist: "When? Today?"
Ljuboja: "Not today. Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. Must think about it. Am not fast-fast."

Sigh

Short English version:
Ljuboja asked money from Stuttgart otherwise he refuses to go to Siena. Well, now he can continue to practice with our second team.

Heldt was stunned by this stupidity and added that just two weeks ago, Ljuboja talked about Real Madrid again. He said that he shouldn't talk about Madrid but keep in mind how many unemployed football players there are...

I've heard rumors from Italian television that Juventus wants Meira. Any info from Germany? That would be a pretty big loss.

That's old news. Juve was supposedly interested in signing him, but Stuttgart didn't want to sell and even threatened Juve with suing them in case they won't stop approaching Meira.

Also, there's no need to sell him. We don't need the money. Stuttgart plans to enter the top 20 of clubs in Europe revenue wise this year, so we're fine for now.

OK, that's good to hear. I've been gone for awhile camping and backpacking and the first football news I heard when I got back was from RAI International TV from Italy where they were talking about Meira coming to Juve and I immediately became worried.

Big opener this Friday.

Yeah, supposedly, all he has is a pulled muscle. He's been out for quite some time now, considering how "severe" this injury sounds.
