Maybe history repeats itself though. Kuranyi became a regular when Sean Dundee was injured early in the season and Kuranyi used the opportunity to gain the edge over Dundee. Same thing with Gomez and Jon Dahl Tomasson. So maybe Fischer will get his chance. But I can't see this happening before next season (which would still be optimistic).
Is this what they mean by schadenfreude? ;)

I'm not sure who would have to get hurt for this little ritual to work out, but I don't want to think about that right now. Positive thoughts that we'll stay as healthy as possible, that's the way to do it.

Aight, i've been travelling the last week, but now i'm back.

VfB head their first friendly match of the season two days ago!

VfB 19 (Gomez, Gomez, Fischer, Gomez, da Silva, Gomez, Gentner, Gomez, Gomez, Gomez, Fischer, Fischer, Stump(own goal), Fischer, Basturk, Khedira, da Silva, Pischorn, Cacau)
Furtwangen 1 (Schmitz)

Team: Langer - Beck, Meißner, Gledson (46. Pischorn), Boka (46. Magnin) - Hilbert (46. Mandjeck), Perchtold (46. Khedira), Gentner (46. Bastürk), da Silva - Gomez (46. Cacau), Fischer

I guess beside the conceded goal, which is obviously a bit embarrassing, the early signs are promising. 19-1 is our biggest friendly match victory in a looooong time, and, even if it was against amateur oppositions, it's still a positive result. Gomez seems to have lost none of his abilities over the hollidays, and Fischer's four goals were also a big positive in my opinion.

on strikers, looks like Ewerthon may not come after all. I'm kinda losing my cool with the strikers deal right now, we need to land 1-2 strikers this summer and we've made very little progress so far. I keep the faith in Heldt though, i'm confident he'll still land us at least one quality striker. Regarding the Priskin rumours, i've got a mixed opinion. On the one hand i'd be very happy to have a Hungarian playing for VfB, i'd prolly force myself to buy his shirt if he does come ;) , but on the other hand i don't think he is a particularly good striker, atleast not for now. He did very little in his first premiership season with Watford, and i think he'd be little more than a fringe player at VfB. But we'll see.

As for Fischer, i think there's a good chance he'll already play a role this season, unless we're able to get 2 strikers, which we haven't succeeded in doing so far. As it stands, Fischer is third striker at the moment, and we'll see how the rest of the summer develops. I don't think it would be too early for him to play in the Bundesliga, if he's up to it, he deserves the opportunity.

In our hunt for new strikers, new names keep appearing every day, but finally we seem to know who the mystery striker is:

Heldt confirmed that it is 21 year old Ciprian Marica from Romania. At the moment he's playing for Donezk where he won the Ukrainian championship two times in a row. AS Roma also wanted to sign him, but he wants to come to Stuttgart.

According to the newspapers, both Ewerthon and Marcia will join us very soon.

Yes, i read that in Stuttgarter Nachrichten today as well. Would be much better than Priskin. Marica is a very solid and even more talented striker from what i hear, and it looks like Ewerthon may be coming after all. If these two do indeed come, our quest for new strikers would most definitely be over, and it would even be hard to top us in that region.

If they come, and we then have Gomez/Cacau/Ewerthon/Marica i actually believe we would have, besides Bayern, the best attack in the Bundesliga. But, we've already been put in rumours with many strikers this summer, so nothing is said and done yet, but i can tell you all, if these two do indeed come, then vfbstuttgartfan is very :)

Good article, gives a good overview of our transfers this summer. So it does indeed look like Ewerthon and Marica are definitely coming. in this case our summer transferring is complete, i'm still gonna wait for this news to come up on VfB's official website, but it still looks close to being a done deal. :)

With these transfers our team is now completely prepared for the new season, we've now got even better depth than last year:

-----------------------Schaefer
(Langer)
Osorio----------Meira-------------Delpierre-------Magnin
(Tasci/Beck) (Tasci) (Gledson) (Boka)
------------------------Pardo
(Khedira/Gentner)
---Hilbert----------------------------------Hitzlsperger--
(Khedira) (Khedira/da Silva)
------------------------Basturk
(da Silva/Farnerud)
----------------Gomez-----------Cacau
(Marica) (Ewerthon)

And of course we'd also have Meissner, Mandjeck and Fischer on the squad. Would this be a title-challenging side? To be honest, i don't think any team this season besides Bayern is a title-challenging side, everyone else seems lightyears behind them at the moment. But, i do believe this side would certainly be good enough to challenge for the Champions League positions once again, which i think should be our main goal for the season.

In other news, we played our second friendly match of the season yesterday against the mighty TSG Balingen.

VfB 3(Gomez, Hitzlsperger, Hitzlsperger)
Balingen 1(Schreyeck)

not very convincing, but doesn't really mattter much.

Never say never again.

When a team knows how to play great football, individual talent is not much needed. Besides I believe the strength of teams like Stuttgart ( contrary to that of Bayern) is that they are able to find the talent in players that nobody seems to notice. Take Pardo for example, he was the best DM in the league in his first year and nobody seemed to knew him. Barcelona has clearly much better players (in terms of fame and name) than Sevilla in Spain, but this year Sevilla won the UEFA Cup and Copa del Rey, while Barcelona won nothing.

Stuttgart might not have "espectacular selling newspaper players", but I think they have some great players and a great TEAM.

Best of luck during the next CL and Bundesliga season. Let's hope that the team that probes to be the most competitive side wins. (I'm a Bayern fan ,btw)

Cheers ;)

This formation looks really good, although I think, that no team will be able defeating Bayern, if they play like they can. If they don't win the Meistertitel this year, it would be very surprising for me...

Some newspapers say, that it's sure we've bought Ewerthon and Marica...:D

Looks like it's sure, Tomasson will play next season for Villareal...the two teams only discuss how much money Stuttgart will get for this starscorer :D

He probably will get back to being a "star scorer" away from Stuttgart. Some guys just don't fit in certain places.

Tomasson can play. He just wasn't right for VfB.

Hearing he would came to us, I was very excited watching the danish scorer...but I've to say, he disappointed me in all ways. No rushing, no fighting, no goals...the few goals he scored, were "Abstauber", that means, he became balls the keeper wasn't able to keep and then he'd to score from 5m.

But when I saw him playing in the national team, I thought I would see another J.D.Tomasson...he gave everything he had for his team, all of that he never showed in Germany...

...so my opinion of Tomasson isn't the best, but I think it was Trapattoni's fault, too, to buy him...great missunderstood there...

Yeah, at least we haven't had as much bad luck as Dortmund, who always seem to find the guys that play well in other places but don't seem to fit in Dortmund. ;)

But I hear you. I still think that Tomasson is a great striker, but he and Stuttgart just were not supposed to be...

We have shit heads in management. I'm not afraid to say that. But they seemingly got some things right this past summer.

Whether that will translate to the pitch remains to be seen....

Tomasson will be OK in Spain. I guess Feyenoord didn't have the money to outbid Villareal. Bert van Marwijk sure wanted Tomasson back again.

I maintain that Tomasson was a good striker. He didn't have the best of seasons last year, but it was also silly that he got practically no chance to show what he could do this past season. I personally think it's a shame we never got to see a proper Gomez-Tomasson partnership. But oh well, it's clear he was never going to play for VfB again so i'm just glad Villareal is willing to buy him, and then we don't have to worry about him anymore and both sides can go their own way. I'd still wish him the best of luck in the future, which is more than what i can say for Ljuboja.

Compare with footy and vfbstuttgartfan,
Tomasson is a good striker,
he just didn´t fit to Stuttgart.

According to transfermarkt (http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/news/16810/10072007_1613/news/anzeigen.html) you get
a transfer fee of about 2 million € from Villareal
and save the annual salary of 4 million €.
This should help at the Tomasson and Marica deals. ;)

It's official!!!
Tomasson was bought by Villareal :) and Stuttgart will become at least 1,5 Mio € and will save Tomasson's salary, which could be around 1,5 Million € / year.

Nice news :D

He finally left, another Danish bust out. Good call for both parts. And I really doubt Stuttgart were paying him 4 million euro in salary per year. Mauwie's 1,5 sounds more accurate.
