An interesting poll i saw today on the VfB forum was: Should there be a goalkeeper switch?
Surprisingly enough, 48% of voters said they wanted to bench Schaefer for Langer. That's an outrageously huge number of people voting for someone who has only played one game in the last 18 months.
What is clear is that the pressure is undoubtedly on Schaefer now, and if he makes more errors such as against Bayern, Rostock, Barca, etc. in the coming weeks, it could make him a substitute. I still hope he'll be able to turn things around.
The new standing in the poll:
Raphael Schaefer - 44%
Michael Langer - 55%

From what I've been seeing you guys should be polling about a lot more than just the f#cking goalkeeper......

The players are all still there, it's not as if they all got suddenly worse and all don't remember how each of them is supposed to play in the team. That's why I can't understand how we could get THIS BAD.
The players didn´t get bad, they are just in another situation.
They now have the pressure of the German champion and
not the "easy-going" of a team on a winning-streak.
I expect them to get it in the next time and
then you start to get points again. :)

Kicker Ratings out today by the way, and I must say this has got to be the worst collection of ratings I have ever seen VfB get in my life.

David Pisot: 6(DEBUT)
(1 game started, average rating 6.00)
Alexander Farnerud: 5.5(can't really blame him, being forced to play outrageously out of position at left back)

Pavel Pardo: 5.5
(10 games started, average rating 3.65)
Roberto Hilbert: 6
(10 games started, average rating 3.65)

Well, looking at the Champions League game, Lyon beat AS Monaco 3-1 last weekend and is now back at the top of the French Ligue 1. So it seems we got them at just the wrong time... even though we are playing at home, I think we are the major underdogs based on present form.
A win seems highly unlikely right now.
Our injury list: Matthieu Delpierre, Arthur Boka, Ludovic Magnin, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Antonio da Silva, Ciprian Marica.
That's about 4-5 of our starting players. One's gotta say, we've also had our share of bad luck :o

I don't think this game will be as dire as it looks on paper. Lyon are having better domestic form at the moment, then again, we beat Metz 5-0 before the Barca game and Lens 3-0 before the Rangers game. So the win against Monaco doesn't mean anything.
And despite Stuttgart's two losses, they still had better performances in the CL so far whereas Lyon have been the worst out of the 32 teams in the competition. We haven't even scored a goal yet!
I can sympathize on your injury situation, as Lyon have had one of their own earlier in the season. We're still missing our Coupet and Cris, and Fred is still suspended. So we won't be at full strength either.
It only takes one good game to end a bad streak, and Stuttgart will make every attempt to play a good game tomorrow. Though naturally I'll hope they don't succeed. :)

Tomorrow will not only be about getting confidence back, it is also very decisive as far as the group is concerned. Both of us need the win if either of us are going to be able to challenge Rangers for the second spot, and a loss for either side(especially for VfB) may well already resign them to bottom spot and an exit from Europe.
So there's a bunch to play for tomorrrow, and it's a huge game really.
Best of luck in it - meanwhile I can always hope my side will come back to life in time for it.

You need not worry. None of those players are going anywhere this season.....

EE, I wish I could agree on it being that simple. I don't think it is. I think what we are seeing is closer to the "real VfB" (of course they are better than they show now, not worse) than what we saw in the second half of last season, which was very much a fairy tale.
I think it's more problems with team chemistry than any "pressure" of being Deutscher Meister.
Of course that pressure is definitely a factor, but I don't believe it is the main problem......

Think about it though: on paper, we are still very strong. Talentwise, I'd say only Bayern are clearly better than us and that we are about equal to teams such as Schalke, Bremen or Hamburg. On paper that is. Obviously what we have been showing so far this season does not back me up in any way whatsoever, but I still have the faith in the ABILITIES of the players.
Anyway, i'm really excited for tonight. Absolutely CRUCIAL game, for both sides. If I had to make a prediction, it would be 0-2 - comfortable three points for Lyon. But of course I really hope this isn't the case, and we'll see how the team does.

Got back in time for the great game. :)
Not very optimistic for tonight though. Think we will have to wait till Hitzlsperger
and Delpierre get back and a few victories against weak opposition till we
again can take on a team like Lyon. With these two injured I thought guys like
Meira, Pardo and da Silva would step up and lead the team but was proven
wrong like in many of the opinions I held before the session. VfB doesn't look
like a football team at the moment.
The game against Lyon is hopeless just as our games against Leverkusen and
Bayern. I hope we atleast "lose in style".
on paper, we are still very strong.
Agreed. Or to quote Hitzfeld: BVB we will pass anyway.

Well, we sucked again. I'd like to apologize on behalf of my team to all German football fans for apparently playing a huge part in further destroying Germany's coefficient standing. Our performance tonight was pathetic AGAIN.
I'm actually starting to get the feeling now that Veh should leave after all. I really hate to say since what he did for us last year was simply brilliant, but this side right now is just pathetic. I think we'll lose again on the weekend to Leverkusen.
I would congratulate Lyon but there's no point really since we played as shit as a French Third Division team, so no surprise their gonna win this.

Mmh, this make it difficult for Stuttgart to even reach
the 3rd rank in the group. :(
Schalke and especially us must do better tomorrow.

Yes, I hope you guys do better too.
I gotta say I feel really sorry for the big supporters of the club now, especially since i'm not in Germany myself right now. They've gone to Berlin, Glasgow, Rostock, Hamburg and Bremen, all really damn long trips, and the team has lost on every occasion. The only close away match was the derby, which the team also proceeded to lose.
And now they are shit at home as well.
If I was one of the players right now i'd be ashamed.

True, they got champions by chance and nothing else. Honestly I was expecting this (their current season perormance) to happen, but not in such a a hard way. Their place in the league is worse than expected, but the CL blow out is not a surprise to me
