Meira was given 2 matches because he has already seen red this year (1st round of Pokal against SV Wehen). Either way, it does nothing to help our defensive problems...

You're right. That one slipped my mind.

We played a friendly match against Offenburger FV the other day, half the side was made up of players from VfBII as we still have many injuries and of course many players busy with their national teams.

We won 4-2, with goals by Ewerthon(2), Farnerud and Schuster(from VfBII)

This is how we played:
Schäfer (46. Langer) - Osorio, Pisot (46. Pischorn), Tasci (46. Gledson), Farnerud - Perchtold (46. Mandjeck), Meißner (46. Pardo), Bastürk (77. Klotz), Hofmann (46. J. Schuster) - Cacau (56. Fischer), Ewerthon

Injuries continue to overwhelm us, and that will remain the case away to Hamburg this coming weekend.

The left side is likely to look increasingly suspect as Hitzlsperger will remain out of contention for this week. da Silva will as well and now Boka picked up an injury and he too will miss out on the game. Meira will of course miss the game through suspension.

Minor good news however: Delpierre is back in training and hopefully will be fit to play within the coming weeks. Also, as far as I know, Basturk is fit again, so hopefully he'll be able to finally start playing a role in our season.

it just keeps getting worse...Magnin now must sit out for around 2 weeks because of a muscle tear. Our back four is as makeshift as ever. If we take a single point this weekend, I have confidence that absolutely anything can happen.

We've won in Hamburg the last two years :) - though to be honest, i'll be able to live with it tomorrow if we can just get our first away point of the season.

Magnin is injured? That's absolutely terrible news, seeing Boka is out aswell. So what do you think we'll look like in the back?

Osorio----Gledson----Tasci----Beck ????'

Sounds pretty extreme :(, we'll see how it goes

And latest news is Marica is injured as well...

Game starts in 20 minutes... i'll be satisfied if we take a point. With all the injuries, here is how i expect us to line up:

--------------Schaefer
Osorio-----Gledson--Tasci----Beck
----------------Pardo
----Hilbert--------------Khedira
--------------Basturk
---------Cacau----Gomez

Out of our back four, only Osorio would be a starter if the whole side was fit. Gledson was dissappointing in pre-season and has yet to play a Bundesliga game for us... this is his chance. Beck has not starter a game for us since he originally showed potential 18 months ago...he's one to watch out. Considering how bad our defense has played in the last games, it might not even be a bad thing to start with such an experimentational side.

Our midfield looks strong on paper, but i hope Hilbert is fit to play, something which isn't certain. I'm also not sure that Basturk is fit enough to play from the first minute onwards, I hope he is, may be he'll finally be able to get his VfB career up and running :) - Khedira in the meanwhile I hope will play better than in recent games.

At least Cacau and Gomez are both fit, hopefully they'll have a good game.

Let's get our first away points of the season!

Here we go again. Circus clown defense driving me crazy! As much as I like Veh, if he doesn't get a result today, he's on the hot seat. This is horrible! Worse yet, I'll be getting junk emails for sure from a Bayern friend of mine. Dammit Schwaben!

Are you really going to level Nuremberg's shameful record?

Yeeeeaaaah I can't watch anymore of this mess! Down 3-0 in the first half. One could drive a 16 wheel Mercedes-Benz truck through our defense. There seems to be a lack of fighting spirit from this team. WTF's going on over there?!?!

Gomez is playing ok.
Osorio is playing ok.

The rest of the team can just ******** off at this stage, everyone's an absolute joke. They showed last season that they can play, and now it seems they all forgot. 3-0 down and a man down at halftime(red card AGAIN, ********ing idiots, this time completely deserved after such an idiotic kick by Pardo. I thought he was the mature guy?????? Crazy).

If this continues, i think the final score will be 6-0.

Ewerthon has done NOTHING all half.
Basturk may as well still be injured.
Pardo just may have made the game even worse that we thought possible with that red. And he's going to get a 3 game suspension. Well done, Pavel.
Tasci is playing pathetically again, mistake after mistake in the defense.
Pisot - well we can't complain about him too much - this is his first EVER professional game, but still it's been a horror one so far.
Hilbert has done nothing going forward, and helped cause one of the goals.
Schaefer once again was unable to stop any of HSVs biggest chances... surprise, surprise.
Khedira is playing crap again.
Farnerud is horrible, but you can't really blame him when he's out of position.

No other way of saying this, the whole side is crap.

and i do have a criticism to point at Veh this time around:
Why start Pisot, an amateur player in defense instead of Beck? If you want to experiment, surely you should try out the young gun who already knows how the first team plays, not someone who's been training with the side for just one week. Unless of course you want Beck to play at leftback instead but noooooo because....
ALEXANDER FARNERUD, a ********ing creative attacking midfielder, was selected to play at leftback today! I'm sorry, but that's an absolutely ********ing INSANE decision. Farnerud can't play defense, how the hell could Veh decide to put him there?
And not to mention that Ewerthon was picked over Cacau to start... I know he sees the training and i don't, but i was really surprised by this, and so far Ewerthon's been crap.

So on this occasion, I do think Veh messed up bigtime tactically.

Now it's all about trying to prevent as much damage as possible.

4-0 now, Commentator's quote:

"This is the worst performance that I have seen by ANY Bundesliga team in ANY game this season. VfB is completely at the bottom".

What can we do to overcome this? Just wait for everyone to no longer be injured? Or acknowledgre that there is a general big problem with the team right now that can't just be blamed on injuries. something doesn't click anymore. Should we trust Veh to solve the problem(as he already succeeded in doing a little over a year ago), or do we realize that, with the worst start by this club that i can even remember(the season we were almost relegated we weren't nearly this bad at this point), it is perhaps time to make some RADICAL changes - perhaps even in the coaching positions?

I don't know, one can see this both ways.

But we are in deep trouble. Forget about Champions League spots. Hell, forget about Uefa Cup / Intertoto Cup spots - for now our only goal should be to distance ourselves from the relegation spots.

Tasci brings a consolation goal...i'm not being too consoled by it at the moment to be honest.

I stand corrected. What's Balakov doing these days?

Balakov is coach of Grasshoppers Zuerich last time I checked. Dunno if he still has that job.

But for some reason i don't really believe this is Vehs fault, but then again I don't know whose it is.

We have to play a Champions League game in a few days... now that's a scary thought.

OMG, what's up with you this season? 5 away games, 5 defeats...

Can't remember that happening to a champ in the past.

Former Koln coach Hanspeter Latour is coach at Grasshoppers.

As far as I know, Balakov is unemployed.

Not trying to be an a$$hole here, but I'd consider the possibly that last season was simply a fluke......

Or should I say, the second half of last season was simply a fluke. That's when you guys got hot.

A decent performance in the CL turned things around for Bremen. Maybe you guys can do the same....

We are the HSV of this season. Prepare yourselves for a relegation spot over the winter break only to sneak into the UI (-->UEFA) cup at the end of the season.

One could say the title was perhaps a fluke, but still, we DID finish something like 8 points in front of the 4th place team, whether it was a lucky year or not, no one can say we didn't play very well throughout the season.

The players are all still there, it's not as if they all got suddenly worse and all don't remember how each of them is supposed to play in the team. That's why I can't understand how we could get THIS BAD.

Team comments after the game:

Armin Veh: "After the results of the last weeks the side is somewhat insecure and that insecurity became even more obvious after the early goal that we let in. But it doesn't help to our hang our heads now, instead we must concentrate on the next games. In such a situation only results can help us, and we will do our best to gain these results in the next games".

Raphael Schaefer: "The game went completely differently to how we had hoped. We are now in a very difficult situation, and it's important to start getting positive results as soon as possible, in order to not fall even further down the table".

Pavel Pardo: "It is obvious, that our confidence is missing right now. In order to get points, every side must believe in itself and it is clear that we are not doing so at the moment. After the early goal we conceded the insecurity became very clear, and in the end we completely deserved to lose. But i'm convinced that we will soon start to get better results again".

Mario Gomez: "This was one of the worst days of my career. We were never able to get properly into the game and do what we had plannned to do. We are not in an easy situation now, where we must forget about the negative results and try to concentrate on the future."

VfB Debutant David Pisot: "It is very bitter, to have such a Bundesliga debut. I'm very dissappointed, but that doesn't help anything now. I want to and must learn from my individual mistakes, and my next Bundesliga game will then go better".
