Apparently Meira's red card wasn't even a handball, not sure if this is true, but if so, Merk managed to ******** up the entire game in the 7th minute. Not impossible, considering we are traditionally the referees' whipping boys.
But then again i don't know if this is true as i did not see the action.

I watched the highlights on vfbtv.de and it was probably a correct call. To me, it looks identical to the situation when Osorio was sent off last season for handball in the penalty area. It's one of those unfortunate times when reflexes take over and Meira just moved his upper arm into the ball to try to stop it going in.
Never the less, this match is just another extremely bitter pill to swallow. I just can't see an end in sight to our misery. Truly a crisis time. :(

I was watching the highlights, and it looked like a correct call from the ref. Although Meira obviously had the opposite opinion.

I thought the Meira call was correct too.

Most people do, just heard it was wrong somewhere, probably the guy who told me that was just extremely pissed off.
I'm pretty damn mad with the team right now, and i think i'll be singling out certain players in the coming weeks who i believe should really need an improvement.

It was no handball in my eyes! But ok, perhaps I'm too biased regarding this referee (who made a ridiculous penalty decision against Celtic in the CL last Wednesday)...

Kicker says the referees overlooked the fact that Hannover's Rosenthal was off-side on the play.
I can't blame them for that though. A guy committing a hand ball on the goal line would generally take your attention away from anyone who might be offside.
If Meira had simply let the ball go in, they might have caught the offside.
And even if they did not catch the offside, Stuttgart sure as hell would have had a better chance with eleven players instead of ten.......

At DSF matchday-analysis there the "experts" also checked it,
but they came to the conclusion, that ref Merk did the right decision:
Two Stuttgart players were closer to the goalline than Rosenthal at Husztis shot
(Meira clearly closer and goalie Schäfer by centimetres)
=> close, but no offside.

Well, it's been an undeniably crap season so far, but at least VfBII now leads the Regionalliga :D

An interesting poll i saw today on the VfB forum was: Should there be a goalkeeper switch?
Surprisingly enough, 48% of voters said they wanted to bench Schaefer for Langer. That's an outrageously huge number of people voting for someone who has only played one game in the last 18 months.
What is clear is that the pressure is undoubtedly on Schaefer now, and if he makes more errors such as against Bayern, Rostock, Barca, etc. in the coming weeks, it could make him a substitute. I still hope he'll be able to turn things around.

Meira got a two match suspension for his handball red card.

He got a two match suspension, so it was a handball in someone's eyes.....

I don't know, two match suspension sounds a bit harsh to me. I expected they would settle for one match ban.

Meira was given 2 matches because he has already seen red this year (1st round of Pokal against SV Wehen). Either way, it does nothing to help our defensive problems...

Schaefer is feeling that huge shadow of his predecessor.
Hmmm. I wonder why that is....
Anyhow, he needs to get past that and just relax the way he did at FCN.
Polls like this won't help matters either.
And we already had the argument about polls and what they mean......

You know, sometimes it isn't the player that has to get past it, but the fans who are too nastalogic for what was and who was, that they automatically devalue the replacement. Like politics or comedians, it's very difficult and even unfair sometimes when you have a popular or extremely gifted/talented person that just left before you came on.
I haven't been able to see hardly any of the games this year, so I can't judge his miscues or performances, but I just find this is a difficult thing for the public to avoid as much as the player that is directly affected.

Dunno, since Meira has been playing so far off his potential this season, it may actually be good for him to have a break. Gledson hasn't played a single Bundesliga game for us yet, i know he looked terrible in the League Cup and German Cup, but he was still probably the best defender in the 2. Liga last season so he must have some potential. I'm not really against him finally getting a chance in the first team.
It is also perhaps an opportunity to experiment a little. Perhaps Osorio could move into the center for the next matches, he seems to have the right CD traits in my opinion, and then Beck could finally get an opportunity at RB. He's undoubtedly a talented young player, so it would be about time he gets a try.
So there are some options, and experimenting in defense right now can hardly make the worse than they have been so far this season.
But really what we need most is to have Delpierre return to the first team, apparently it'll still be about a month. We've really been missing him this year, his absence has been the biggest knock on us in my opinion :(

I certainly agree with this, can't exactly boost his confidence. Hopefully he hasn't seen it.

This is exactly why I said "Hmmm. I wonder why that is?"

I hope not, but some players do check out these things.....
