Hey there!
I thought it would be nice to give a brief overview on each Chilean player. :)
GKs
Christopher Toselli (U. Católica)--was our starting 'keep in all but the first 2 of the matches during the qualifying tournament in Paraguay. Plays for U. Catolica's reserves in the Chilean 3rd div, and will most likely be our starter.
Nery Veloso (Huachipato)--has been in and out of the squad for the last year and a half or so and did not make the cut to Paraguay '07 (qualifying tournament). Is the back up in his team--Huachipato--though he stars for their 3rd div. reserve team. In a friendly vs. Mexico's U20s a few weeks back, was voted MoM and even saved a PK (this was against a Mexico side that included most of the guys that won the U17 WC).
Ronald Valladares (Fdez. Vial)--an unknown quantity, though he starts in the 2nd div. for his club (same div. in which Dan Kennedy and DJ Countess play ).
Defenders
Cristián Suárez (San Felipe)--CB/DM. 'Till two years ago was not even in the books of any clubs (worked as a farmer, in fact). Last year he stood out with 2nd div. San Felipe, and imho was our most consistent CB in Paraguay. Had an offer to go play in Argentina but somehow it fell through.
Hans Martínez (U. Católica)--SW. Our starting sweeper. Plays for U. Catolica's reserves, as well. Scored an own goal on Wednesday e in a friendly vs. Uruguay (2-2 FT).
Nicolás Larrondo (U. de Chile)--CB. 2nd most capped defender in the 1st div (after Godoy). Is very well thought of (though I am still not very convinced). Very dangerous in set pieces going forward (finished the qualifying tournament with 4 goals or so). Turned down a NCAA D1 scholarship last year so he could remain with U. de Chile and thus be more readily available for selection with the U20 NT.
Eric Godoy (S. Wanderers)--CB. In terms of actual 1st team 1st div. apps, this guy has the got the most (amongst the defenders). Started all of last year's Closing Championship (with my team--Wanderers), as well as this year's Opening Championship). Rarely featured in Paraguay, though.
Cristián Sepúlveda (U. Española)--CB/DM. Does not start for either club or country, though is one of the 1st guys off the bench on both. Offers depth as he can cover more than one position.
Mids
Mauricio Isla (U. Católica)--DM/SW. Another 3rd div. UC guy. Another one who offers depth.
Gary Medel (U. Católica)--DM/CB. Captain in Paraguay and has featured a bit this year's in UC's 1st team. Though recently was caught in a confusing incident (barfight?) outside a popular niteclub in Stgo.
Carlos Carmona (Coquimbo)--RWB/RM. Played at the last U20 WC in Holland, and now returns. Recently agreed terms with Colo Colo. Imho should be more of a defensive mid, though he tends to play out wide. This will also be his 2nd WC (was in Holland, as well in '05).
Arturo Vidal (Colo Colo)--going to Bayer Leverkusen, Germany. CB/LB/DM. For the U20s, he usually covers one of the middle spots. Is probably our most important player, and has been capped at full NT level (even shutting down Boca Jrs.'s Rodrigo Palacio in a recent friendly vs. Argentina).
Isaías Peralta (U. Española)--AM/St. Offers options up front, and could be one of the 1st guys off the bench.
Gerardo Cortés (D. Concepción)--DM. Just exploded this year onto the scene with Concepcion. Scored both of our goals on Wednesday vs. Uruguay. Has scored a few important ones for his club this year, as well. Was not in the squad in Paraguay.
Juan Pablo Arenas (Colo Colo)--AM. Looking for a breakout. Scored an amazing goal from half field in our 5-0 thrashing of Colombia in Paraguay. Plays in the 3rd div. with Colo Colo's reserves, though has seen some important PT with the 1st team, as well.
Dagoberto Currimilla (Huachipato)--does not really have a def. pos. on the field, though he features mostly on the right (RB, even). Has been a starter with his club for almost two years. Is of Chilean indigenous descent :) ("mapuche").
Strikers
Nicolás Medina (U. de Chile)--going to Osasuna, Spain. ST. Highly criticized in Paraguay because of his ability to miss easy goals (missed two practically open netters vs. Brazil in the 2nd round). Somehow, though, was our top scorer and this year he even made his debut with U. de Chile's 1st team. Is off to Spain after the WC.
Alexis Sánchez (Colo Colo)--going to Udinese, Italy. Winger/2nd striker. Good on the dribble and is only 17 yrs. old. I've yet to see him beat two guys off the dribble on the same play, though his potential leads one to believe that should happen soon (has a tendency to play a little more for the stands than for his team, though hopefully that will change in Canada).
Mathías Vidangossy (U. Española)--going to Villarreal, Spain. AM/2nd striker. Has had a few disciplinary problems, though technically speaking he's probably the most gifted on the team. Was the best player during the 1st round of qualifying (and then dissappeared for the 2nd round, imho).
Jaime Grondona (S. Wanderers)--St. From my team, as well. Has only one 1st team goal in his career. Good in the air; and is always part of the squad, though he gets little PT.
Michael Silva (S. Wanderers)--going to Atlante, Mexico. 2nd striker. Sanchez's direct back up. Agile, mobile and able to draw defenders to him and is also from my team. Has a few 1st team goals to his name, and has been playing professionally since the age of 16. If off to Mexico after the WC.
Hope this helps!

So Metro, what does the formation look like? Looking at the roster i assume you go 3 at the back and 3 at the front? Or does one of the young gun strikers sit?

During the qualifying tournament we played like this (let it be know that I am totally against playing with 3 in the back with any of our NTs  ) :
Toselli.
Larrondo.
Martinez (SW).
Suarez.
Currimilla (R), Medel, Vidal, Carmona (L).
Vidangossy.
Sanchez.
Medina.
Now, I will be at the game tomorrow (us vs. US U20s), and the coach said that he wanted to give everyone a run. So I will give you guys a nice scouting report. :D A few things to keep in mind:
-our 1st back up GK (Veloso) got hurt today (chipped his tooth in practice);
-both Martinez and Sanchez are suspended for the 1st game (vs. you guys).

Thanks Metro!
Sucks that Sanchez and Martinez are suspended against us. Is it due to card accumulation?

There was a major brawl vs. Paraguay in the last game in qualifying. Grondona, Arenas got 2nd yellows iirc (both were cleared). Sanchez and Martinez got direct reds, and thus they are not allowed to play.

Didn't one guy get a yellow because he was taking his time as he was being substituted and a paraguayan tried puching him and they gave a red card to the chilean gayest ref ever: Samuel Haro:eek:

Sorry guys, Chile didn't look that hot today against the US...Sanchez is a shifty little bastard though, i'm sure he'll score some goals at the WYC.

So Sanchez is the main guy you think we should watch out for on July 1st

Yea, today we didn't play too well, I must admit. We've had a bad run of games (Mexico, Uruguay, US) in which we haven't performed. I would say today we played the best when the ball was on the ground (too often we were playing longballs), and we played specially well the 1st 20 min.

I saw the 0-1 and 2-2 scores against Uruguay. How did you do against Mexico? where was the game played?

We played in Chile and we tied. Then again, the coach has been trying a few new things here and there and he said he wanted to give everyone a run on the team (meaning, all the guys in the squad).
Today, our two best players were two of the boys from my team: Grondona and Godoy!

I saw you guys made a bunch of subs at the half today...it's to be expected, everyone is finalizing their squads/lineups.
What was the score against Mexico? did they have their top guys like De Santos and Vela?

Actually, I stand corrected: we won 1-0, though based on what I read/heard, we played very sh!tty.
This was Mexico's line up (just about everyone that won the U17 WC, bar the Europe-based guys, if I am not mistaken?):
Alfonso Blanco, Julio César Domínguez, Héctor Alfredo Moreno , Patricio Gabriel Araujo, Jorge Hernández, Adrián Aldrete, Juan Carlos Silva, Cristian de Jesús Bermúdez, Omar Esparza, Jorge Osorio y Javier Hernández

hey Metro, where is Matias Fernandes? he's only 20 right? and I assume he's too good for the U20 side and was called up for Copa America?
