Buenos Dias from Puerto Colombia (http://www.venezuelatuya.com/wallpapers/puertocolombia.htm)

Lucky for the rest of you folks the new bridge into Caracas form the Airport is open, being inaugurated yesterday by Hugo himself. The rumors circulating on the ground is about tix varies between the Govt. buying up the lot to reward Chavezistas, or making them available to South American nations only.

Bring your sunscreen, Maracaibo is said to be the hottest, BTW a beer costs $.40

First off, I'm jealous. I wish I was traveling to Venezuela to see the Copa América. Second, I'd love to see a mini-blog from you talking about your experience there. Third, have fun and go USA!!

For those of you that passed on the opportunity,.. bad choice. Regardless of the strength of the US team, Venezuela is both crazy and very cool.; you'll be missing out.

The energy of this place is unreal. Bring your Dollars, you'll get at least 50% more for your money.

For you on this thread soon to arrive, here are a few tips.

At the Airport only take cabs with yellow plates. A bus into the city only runs during the day. You may be better off with a cab, might cost you $50. Team up with pthers. We got a cab to Marakay for $100. 2hours SW of the Airport

Caracas is not much of a destination.

There's four of us in Maracaibo at the Hotel Delicias. We arrived around 11pm last night. All is OK so far. We even found a small pub to catch the highlights of the day's two matches.

Wes is expecting two more buddies to join him.

Wes (Buffalo, NY)
Andre (San Fransicso)
Brian (Sacramento)
Me (Dallas)

None of us have game tickets yet, but we'll be on the hunt today.

Brian and I crashed with Wes last night. The two of us still have to find lodging for the next few days.

Well, there's eight of us at the hotel now, with one more due later today.

As for tickets, we were fortunate to avoid the huge line at the stadium. The line must have been 3-4 hours long but it didn't seem to move at all according to people we queried. There was a special line for foreigners. Actually, it was not a line at all, so we quickly bought six tickets for Principal section for 60,000 Bolivares each ticket and walked away happily.

Yesterday we walked the neighborhoods in the new downtown area and sampled various restaurants and pubs. The games last night were on screens all over town so catching the matches was not a problem at.

The hotel lobby is swarming with Argentinian fans.

Watch out for fakes! (http://weblogs.clarin.com/copa-america/archives/2007/06/la-locura-por-ver-a-la-seleccion-no-tiene-precio.html)

Real tickets are going for up to $100 and there's a problem with counterfeit tickets.

If I'm reading this right, a tank of gas is a dollar, though.

We are in Barinas (which is a p.o.s. litlle town) on our way to the Paraguay game, for which we bought tickets at the apparenty official store, which was carging 10 bucks over face value. Security is very heavy and it seems that basically only venezuelans are going to the game. We´ve seen only oe other american (although staying in roach motels may account for that). The whole town is shut down and on holiday.
Hopefully the game goes well.

There's a bit in the USMNT blog today about five fans spotted outside the hotel restaurant by the team manager, and that Bradley personally came out and made sure to thank them for making the visit. This anybody in this thread? Details?

I came here with the same question. It also mentions they met on the internet. My first thought was "BigSoccer represent!"

Uncle Sam hats are NEVER
ever, ever, ever

ever, a good look.

never.

There is no more cringe inducing, embarrassing, haberdashery on the planet. Leave them home. Or, better yet, retire them to the cesspit.
