need I say more...
first the two leg tackle on DeGuzman.. that was horrific..
second the lame penalty given to the US..
THIRD - disallowed goal by a ref that is totally out of position to make the call..
what a farse...
the fix was in 2 years ago..
the Gold Cup sticks.. no wonder no one cares..!!!

You lost. It was a bad call. Welcome to our every day lives in international play. Watch some US World Cup tapes, screwing America is a favorite international pass time. My condolences though, seriously. Canada fought hard.

I'll agree on one and three but point two doesn't fly. Pat made contact. Sadly, the ball was headed out of play and the attacker was not going to get it back when Pat made contact but hey, that's the type of play seen in lots of high level games. The keeper is doing his best, mistimes his lunge for the ball and contact ensues and the man goes down. It wasn't an obvious dive so I'll say that the call was just.

the tackle on deGuzman should have been a red..
If you ask me Bradley's foul could have been a yellow..
either way its a sham..
if the lines man doesnt call it and he is far out.. and the ref who in the mix calls it.. who are you kidding??

Agreed, it was definitely a penalty. If we are to complain about PK calls we could complain about the lack of one that went Canada's way in the first half. But why even bother expending the energy to do that when you have points one & three to complain about, the latter of which can not be disputed by any reasonable means.

Have to admire Beasley on the penalty - and I think it was a penalty - he could have avoided it, a better player would have controlled the pass and rounded Onstad, but given his touch, why would he avoid it? Watch what he does with his right foot - straight into Onstad's chest to create the situation where a penalty had to be given. Brilliant really. Onstad is right, in a sense, to call dive, because it was entirely manufactured, but it was a penalty.

Yep. I guess thats why Beasley is in Europe while most of his teammates are in the MLS. Not saying that the MLS is garbage or anything but it is little things like what you mentioned that quality players learn in Europe and be sucessful with it.

My sincerest condolences to you guys. You definitely didn't deserve to lose. Canada continually impressed me this tournament and I'm sorry that our advancement came at your expense, as well as under such questionable circumstances.

Anyone following CONCACAF for more than one World Cup cycle would understand the truth in this.

It honestly sucks that first world countries such as Canada and USA are stuck with third world officiating because of our geographical location. I doubt the CONMEBOL officiating is better either. This is the reason why we absolutely need UEFA referees. Pay UEFA whatever amount they want. Why doesn't USSF throw around its wait to get something like that done? I mean the CONCACAF pretty much depends on the US financially.

So, if we do nothing but hire UEFA referees, how do CONCACAF referees get any experience?

A lot of the refereeing at the World Cup wasn't exactly brilliant either. FIFA definitely have a shortage of quality referees everywhere.

You've watched CONCACAF fixtures over the years, haven't you? Have they EVER shown any signs of improvement?

Perhaps we should flash back to qualifying for the 1994 World Cup. Playing Mexico in Toronto needing a win to advance directly to the WC...CSA manages to finangle a UEFA crew to work the game - German I believe. Canada leading 1-0 and they score a second! 2-nil Canada!!!! No wait, the UEFA AR has wrongly called an offside . Second goal would have had a tremendous impact on the game, maybe Canada goes through direct and Mexico has to travese the Australia/Argentina gauntlet to get to WC94. But alas, the goal was called offside incorrectly by a non-CONCACAF officiating crew. Mexico comes back, wins the game 2-1, maybe they would have anyway, but...
Is there a moral to the story? Who knows, maybe we were screwed, maybe we were unlucky.

I remember it well. Pesch was technically offside at the sideline but as we all know, the call is discretionary ... yes, even back then. The flag went up, the whistle blew and Lyndon Hooper's goal was called back.
The officials were from Germany.
They also missed a penalty call in stoppage time when Craig Forrest moved up field on a corner. The ball came into the box, Forrest went up for it and was all set to make contact when a body collided with him, a Canadian body, a Canadian body that was pushed into Forrest by a Mexican player. An obvious penalty but no call.

Just to add my condolences as well. Should of gone to extra time. I knew Canada would give us a tough game and our guys weren't up to it.
Some bad calls (and no calls, Hume got a little chippy for my taste at times) But with that said, for the most part, you fans are a class act, no fuss, no mess, or shite talking that we get from every other team in this region. Really hoping you guys take a spot for the WC (not our of course) ;-)
