Where to start. Perhaps in a saying that has echoed in my brain since a very young age when my dad would repeat the phrase on my brothers and I often enuff to never forget: The habitat absorbs, corrupts and destroys.
What happened to the uruguayan that narrated games at Telemundo with pasion and objectivity? Even thou he had a clown as commentator? Is the "need" to satisfy the biggest segment of latins in the US so overwhelming to lose touch with reality?
I welcomed the inclusion of Jorge Ramos and Hernan Pereyra to the FSE crew. Indeed, the crew that the channel has used for almost a decade has been in the most part absolutely lame. That Samuel Jacobo has no place in TV broadcasting ... unless it is for a reality show. His notion of football, its rules, knowledge of players and the significance of the games is non-existant.
But coming back to Mr Ramos, there is a constant decline in the quality of his narrating and commentary. Despite the "expansion" of his appearances on the screen with his show. The incorporation of "mexican kid" phrases to season his narrating has been lame for a while. The constant confusion of players names is increscendo. Little does it help that he is sitting in a room with a flat screen. But it is the loss of touch, or perhaps the magnification, with the positioning of the players and/or their physical appearance, that makes his narrating a downhill trend.
Where is the common sense in FSE's programmers? Don't they know they have the EXCLUSIVE rights for the most important club competition in the continent? Where on earth did they conclude that having a narrator sitting inside a room can, objectively, be in the best interest of the viewer, as oppossed to having a complete broadcasting crew inside the stadium? An extremely talented crew that covers the entire continent? I can take it when it involves Mexican clubs ... perhaps the main reason why I do cheer for Mexican teams to be eliminated from the competition.
Indeed, it is a disgrace that we have come down to this. And now we have to add that starting next semester, FSE will have the exclusive rights to Italian football. And here we need to add that the few Serie A games this past season where all cut to 70 minutes. Because we all know that the Argentine league ends at 5:20 pm, not 5 pm as their programmers want to believe. Common people. Don't underestimate your viewership. Take a bus or a subway once in a while. Stay in touch with the masses.
FSE needs to start addressing this issues. They have the product. They have an audience. There is no need to supply subpar broadcasting.
For those who agree with this views, say so. We can certainly prepare a letter than can be e-mailed by each and everyone that feels the need to raise their voice. Mediocrity has no place in these days of global communications.
