There's an interesting article on Soccernet today criticising Curbishley for trying to buy Bent and Johnson at grossly inflated prices. I agree that 17 -18 million pounds for either one is ridiculous!
It also implies that AC has been better acquiring more modest players and making them better, while not recognising the value and ability of better ones like Yossi, Noble etc.
It seems to be harder and harder to get really good players to come to the Hammers right now, altho' I expect money will talk eventually.

I think that is our problem right now, we are expecting money to talk. We did with Bent's tranfer fee and (if the rumours are to be believed) his wage offer and it backfired. Luckily Eggy has claimed to have learnt lessons from that.

Also other players have turned us down. On the whole I think many of them are unsure about our future with the arbitration going on, hence the club statement on the OS. This shouldn't worry players IMV but it seems as though it is.

We need to let our club history and passionate fans do the talking when attracting players to the club, as well as our future plans and financial packages. This is how we have attracted some of our best players recently like Yossi, Neill and Ashton.

Apart from anything else if we keep on throwing money around like a spoilt kid in a sweet shop the press will have a field day with us again next season. We've had enough of that to last us a life time.

i agree.

What players do you think west ham are likely to get next season?

That's the big question and things are looking more and more bleak as time marches on.

Man City look as though they will have a new owner and manager by the time we play them. Probably a new bunch of quality players as well.

One of those may be NRC as he has been linked with them. Could just be speculation.

Apparently we have withdrawn Yossi's new contract and Liverpool have upped their bid for him to £4.5m. In other words he'll be off.

Now that La Liga has finished the offers for Tevez wil probably start coming in.

All this and we can't attract a player to the club for love nor money. Things are not looking good IMV.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with some of the comments on here and think a bit too much believing what the papers are saying is going on.

Anyone would think other clubs were signing top notch players left right and centre. The fact is about from Manchester Unted NO ONE has signed anyone of note or significant money apart from us with Scott Parker and Barton to Newcastle.

Darren Bent is the only player we have made a formal bid for who has decided not to come. He didn't want to come in Jan either so I am delighted that we are not wasting that amount of money on him. As for the Arbitration process, that has absolutely nothing to do with it as we are not going to be relegated. Even Sheffield United concede that for goodness sake.

The club ie Duxbury and Igoe, clearly said that it was likely we would be seeing departures before incommings but players had been targetted and signings would be made. The only thing I'm disappointed about is Reo Coker still being here.

It's a pity some of you have such a low opinion of West Ham really.

I hope you are right to be optimistic Hammerette. At the moment it just feels like no-one will touch us with a barge pole.

I have read, though, that Saviola may be offered to us on a free from Barca, but with big wage demands. A top name but would need time to adjust to the league and seems to be the sort of striker who needs good service.

Personally I don't think we will sign anyone for the next 7-10 days and then after the arbirtration fiasco is over things will pick up.
