In light of new championship, I would like to ask of those of you who know a lot more about Boca 2 questions...

1. Where do players like Roman, Palermo, & Tevez rank among Boca greats of all time?

2. Who have been the top 10 players to wear the Boca shirt?

I'm thinking this might even be a great topic for a new thread.

1) It's hard to say.

I'd say in terms of playmakers you have to put Maradona first. But he didn't spend that much time at Boca, just one glorious season in his youth and then some time when he was past his prime. Riquelme gave us more time, gave us more titles, but Diego is Boca.

Another playmaker to be considered would be Angel Clemente Rojas, a true idol of Boca from the late 60's and early 70's. Then there is Roberto Cherro, a crack from the 1930's. Another one who was awesome and I remember fondly is Beto Marcico.

But I'd say Maradona-Riquelme-Rojitas top three as players, and based on their time spent at Boca and titles won probably Riquelme first.

As far as forwards, I'd rank Tevez over Palermo as a player, yet Palermo spent more time at Boca and did more for the club. He will likely become the club's leading goalscorer before his career is over.

All-time forwards, you'd have to look at the all time leading scorer, Francisco Varallo, from the 30's. Other great goalscorers include Mario Boye, Brazilian Paulo Valentim, Miguel Angel Brindisi, and of course Gabriel Batistuta. Although, like Maradona, Bati spent a relatively short time at the club.

I'd say as players Batistuta-Varallo-Tevez-Palermo. But in terms of just their time at Boca probably Varallo-Palermo.

2) top 10 players at Boca?

These come to mind:

Top 10? Maradona, Riquelme, Rojitas, Batistuta, Varallo, Tevez, Rattin, Marzolini, Das Guia, Cherro.

Others: Angelillo, Ferrero, Mastrangelo, Marcico, Pernia, Sune, Madurga, Trobbiani, Mouzo, Pancho Sa, Tarantini, Melendez, Potente, Manteca Martinez, Brindisi, Valentim, Boye, Ruggeri, Serna, Giunta, Kili Gonzalez, Ibarra, Samuel, Barros Schelotto, Palacio.

I got to put some goalies. Gatti, Roma, Cordoba, Abbondancieri, Navarro Montoya, and a couple of old timers: Yustrich, and Mussimessi.

I am sure I am missing many obvious ones.

Very good response, ASF. Thanks. Unfortunately, there are a lot of those names that I simply don't know about. I've been following the NT since '86 so I'm guessing that a lot of those players didn't figure too prominently at the international level.

for me,
Riquelme and Guille are bigger legends at Boca than Maradona.

Maradona is more of an ARgentinian legend. He only played '81 with the club and then a couple of season late in his career. Meanwhile, Riquelme IMO is the best Boca player in terms of what he has done for Boca as a player.

Riquelme no te vayas NUNCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Silvestre has left to Lazio, Marino and Bobadilla have been transfered to Tigres of Mexico, and Riquelme has chances of leaving (not staying, to be more exact). Has anyone else left that I didn't notice? Who else has offers to be sold?

Silvestre is not leaving yet. The Lazio thing is not happening.

Cata might leave to Getafe or to Italy. But the $$ need to be there. He has no EU passport, which makes it more difficult.

Chaco Torres and Pocho Lavezzi are targets.
