Today's Calgary Herald has a piece by George Johnson on the relatively unknown Issey Nakamura-Farran.

wow1 thanks for posting. he seems like such a great guy and quite a skilled player from what little i have seenn so far... and yet, he hasn't been given too many chances. i like that fact that hart gave him the call and even more so that he accepted so quickly. just goes to show that there are skilled players out there wanting to play for canada. he's pure class. thansk issey we are very grateful!

Wow...what a story...Looks like the CSA (or mainly Stephen Hart) got something right and picked up the phone to bring Issey onto our squad. Maybe the dawn of a new era for the association. One can only hope! Now go back and get Jono

Yep, Huron Park is the old RCAF base. My parents boss owns the airport now. Ironically enough I also used to live on the old army base up the highway in Vanastra (formerly CFB Clinton).

Some of the Voyageurs think that with Dale Mitchell becoming the new NT Manager that Lars Hirschfeld may re-join the Canadian NT fold seeing as Mitchell used to be Lars' coach at the junior level.

I don't think that's accurate. Lars only played at the U-23 level for Bruce Twamley. I don't think he ever played for Mitchell.

Anyways, let's hope he comes back so we can have a healthy battle for the #1 position for 2008 WCQ. I also hope Onstad will join the battle, he clearly has one or two more years in him.

I believe Mitchell was the coach when Lars had his brief spell with the Whitecaps. I do not believe that Lars was ever coached by Mitchell at any "youth" level.

Small world.
Lived at 85 Columbia Avenue (I think) many many years ago (just across from JAD McCurdy school - made famous in a book by another RCAF brat). Soccer balls were leather then but I spent most of my time at the rink.

The school was gutted by a fire a few years ago, but they had stopped using it as a school a few years before that. I don't know why they haven't torn it down though, it isn't boarded up nearly enough to keep kids and tweakers out.
