I'm helping the wife cook chicken last night and the recipe included beer and rosemary amongst others. I touched the rosemary to the beer and it fizzed and blew up. Why does beer explode when in contact with rosemary?
I looked all over the net and found no answer. Time for the Erowid fans to speak up and explain this.

The same reason Alka Seltzer fizzes when you drop it in water. The two substances react and a gas (CO2?) is released ... essentially, a tiny explosion.
BTW, when you were a little kid, did you ever look up "fart" in the dictionary and the definition was "small explosion between the legs"?

no. I've seen fire between the legs though. A buddy of mine was famous amongst the girls in our co-ed dorm for lighting his farts. For some reason all of the hottest chicks were entertained by this. One night we met a bunch of girls in one of the shared study rooms where Stevo decided to do his work. Part of the fun was that he would get on a couch and stand on his head while lighting. We always killed the lights for effect and his privacy. Well something caught fire (gas or hair). It cracked me up so much that I just had to turn the lights on. Nothing is more funny than standing in a room with tri delt, zeta and dz chicks watching your friends sack catching fire while he tries to pull his pants up when standing on his head.
