wow! really? sorry guys but to me, that's very hurtful. i'm assuming you guys are canadian citizens right? well, i define it like this: i would die for my country and for the safety of my family first (canada) and so i support them first and foremost because even though they might not be a world power yet on the pitch, they are my country and my brothers and sisters that i would want to support me if i was in their position.

it's because of canadians that don't support canada first that can contribute to less funding for the csa because of ticket/merchandise sales and just lack of interest.

just curious, would you guys die/fight for you country (if you are canadian) canada?

i'm sure this will spark some talk but we as canadians need to stand up more and support mor eof our teams. how else do you expect that soccer will get better in this country?

look at this possible scenario: canada vs. portugal in the u-20 final thsi year in toronto. how many portuguese canadians (a lot of them born here) do you think will support canada? as most know there is a massive population in toronto.

i can tell you this much, if it was canada vs. england (obvioulsy this won't happen because they didn't qualify) but, i would surely support canada first! and i am of english descent. and sorry if i offend anyone but that is the way it should be. most people came to canada for a better life. now support your country as they have supported you!

I wouldn't die for ANYBODY outside of family and extremely close friends.

Oh, and if it's Canada vs. Portugal, I'll have my Portuguese flags out, jersey on, hat on, scarfs out, everything.

if your family lives here (which i'm sure they do) and you went to war you would be fighting for your family anyway...

i bet you're one of those guys who cheers for brazil when portugal gets knocked out too huh?

that is just wrong. it's like an englishman cheering for canada, or new
zealand, or australia, or the usa becaus they were settled by english speaking people...

but this kind of remark coming from someone who thinks figo is god, is just silly anyway.

why are you even on the canada board anyway? go to the portuguese board.

can't stand bastards like this!

appreciate your points but its hard to take the supporters stance seriously of someone who lists both England and Scotland in their top 5 ;)

No, don't make assumptions.

Good, I didn't insult you, but now you want to. I can't stand one dimensional dickheads like you either.

I run into these people everyday.

They can't stand the pride that Portuguese or Italians have for their teams because nobody really cares about Canada NT. Hell, not even the media give a shit. I had to dig to find out when the game is on today...No support anywhere...

I tell even my Canadian buddies that i'm watching the CAN game tomorrow and they laugh and go "Dude, you're joking right?"

And as for the "They cheer for brazil when portugual is out" remark, that is a hog of shit. Most portuguese can't stand the Brazilian NT...

And if anyone is guilty of cheering for a foreign team it's the Canadians! Hell, if I had a dime for everytime one of them said they supported Argentina or Brazil or England...Wtf?

Portugal is the country I was born in. I love Canada and will never move from this beautiful place. But if it's Canada vs Portugal, my Quaresma Jersey comes out and so does the Portuguese flag, why? Because i'm Portuguese first.

You wouldn't get it though, because 1 in 300 people actually care about Canada NT... If you were portuguese you'd understand the passion, kinda like whats going on with TFC.

Funny...the same passionate portuguese and italians and english are the ones contributing heavy to the TFC wave also...see the pattern?

Nobody in Canada cares about the NT. It's sad, but true.

Nobody in Canada cares about the NT. It's sad, but true.No it is not true, and there are at least 5 message boards that prove otherwise. Please allow us the courtesy to cheer for our team and try to remember where you are posting. It is a Canadian fan forum in case you've forgotten.

The basic premise for the board is to be a Canadian supporter or at least an interested observer. Anti-Canada NT posts will be met with disapproval you can be sure of that and will be responded to in kind. Knowing the basic premise of the board should also dictate that anti-Canada posts are akin to baiting/trolling.

The attitude that you're displaying is much a part of why the Voyageurs were formed in the first place. Maybe that attitude is prevalent in Toronto but for much of the rest of the country, not the norm.

It will only get sweeter watching the Euro wannabes crawling on the bandwagon. Kind of like the thud that you heard when the dweebs that drove Pat Onstad out of town are now back on the bandwagon and posting that he's the greatest.

For the Canadian supporters out there, the Euro wannabes are to be pitied not scorned (for being so pathetic). Our day will come, and the way the talent pool is growing, it will be sooner rather than later.

sorry, can you tell me what makes me one dimensional? because i believe in supporting your country first? this is exactly why very few people are interested in canada. because we don't get support from people like you - yet you play on these canada boards. you can't expect that you can write things on the canada board about your choices of who you support putting canada way down the list and not get any comments from true canadian supporters.

so honestly, maybe just stick to the tfc boards and beat it from here.

yes you do run into us people every day. we are CANADIANS! and trust me bud, i'm married to an italian. the only people who want to be portuguese are portuguese. don't lump italians with you because sorry to say but they don't like you. mayb it's because every world cup (when portugal gets knocked out) you switch flags and support brazil. but i guess last year was hard to swallow huh? you guys must of been just down right pissed off! no portugal, no brazil - hahaha! looks good on ya!

many people in canada care about the mnt. it's mostly in toronto where we have such a large multi-diverse culture that you get this kind of thing. and you my friend, is the reason why. if you like canada, support them first. but most foreign
nations follow each other so whatever is cool to do and whoever's shirt is best to wear is what you will wear and support - again, saad but true.

it would take a bigger man to stand up and support the country where you live because less people do! NOW THIS IS PRIDE!!!

and if you're talking about canadians supporting their euro cup team? they obviously don't have one, the world cup team unless you were old enough to support them in 1986, that was obviously your only time to do so...

come on, talk about being one dimensional, open your eyes - or more importantly - open your heart and set a standard for other portuguese friends and family that they should support canada first. and guaranteed, within a few years, the national pride in canada for soccer just may be at a different level.

it's just like someone saying that they are only one vote in an election. but if theye were to vote and encourage others to do the same, it would change the emotion of the voters. the same goes for cmnt!

but i highly doubt you will see it this way.

so do you have anything good to say about canada vs. guatemala? not enough portuguese on the team???

I can stand it. And understand it. Though I don't do it. My mom is from Germany: am I gonna cheer for Germany over Canada? Well, no. Would she? Not over Canada. My Dad is from England ... would I cheer for England over Canada. Nope. Would he? Not over Canada.

But I can understand it. I wish it wasn't the case but ... there are lotta factors involved, including, ya, how the game has been treated in this country. The past ...

I agree with whoever that it's something of a Toronto phenomena ... phenomenon... what .... uhm, whatever the word is.

Oh the media, don't get me started on that. Ya ... the media ... they should all be fired, and bring in media from outside Canada and the USA to take their place. There's something diseased about our sports media, seriously. I dunno if it's cuz they want to be American, or they are all afraid of Don Cherry calling them girly men, or what it is, they are truly sick. Bring in Nigel Reed clones, perhaps. Just replace everyone ... Other than that I dunno. ;)

My point exactly...

Look, great example here...How are people spose to get behind Canada to support them... I've been looking for the channel for 10 minutes now...Nothing...

Is it even on TV?

Guy, nobody is saying I don't support Canada...

Why am I here? Why am I struggling to find it on TV right now? Why do I have tickets for the U-20 in Toronto for Can and Por?

It's not about going for the "best team" you moron, if that were the case anyone who cheers for anything but canada is guilty of that...Canada sucks.

Why? Because the whole system is flawed. Our best players hardly acknowledge they're Canadian...Radzinski didn't wanna play, Whoregraves is ashamed, the media doesn't give a shit about our small useless team...

Where the fack is this on TV? Nobody cares! And until they do, the interest for the mens NT will always be very small and most Canadians will still choose to route for other teams...

You accuse me of cheering for Portugal because "they're good"? Oh please, bitter much? If Canada was ranked 6th in the world and you were born there but lived in Portugal, how would you feel someone telling you that you can't cheer for them only cuz they're good?

Get a grip, I'm a Portuguese Canadian. Both teams are close to my heart, but my life began in Portugal, and for that they becomes first to me.

Goodluck to Canada...too bad none of us will be able to watch it seeing as Canada doesn't even cares about the NT and wont bother to show it on TV.

I wouldn't worry anyway. Portugal will never win anything remotely close to EURO or The World Cup. You're a team of useless, underachieving, diving twats. Enjoy mediocrity; you know, Figo. I particularly enjoyed watching his overrated, over-the-hill ass flopping all over the pitch during the World Cup. What a chump. I'm done with you.

Why do you care? I didn't see Portugal out there. You just went on about how you nor anyone else seems to care about the NT you degenerate. You know what? Piss off and go watch the Portuguese diving team. I hear they're very pretty; especially that uber twat Figaro.

Good morning idiot.

#1 - Never win anything close? Are you retarded? Going to the finals and semi-finals of the last two tournaments is not "anything remotely close?"

#2 - Useless and underachieving? A nation of 10 million people consistently putting out countries with massive populations, some of them 6 and 7 times the size. Yeah, that's underachieving.

#3 - Figo as mediocrity? Too funny. He's the best winger the world has seen in 25 years, don't forget that.

I'd like to know who you support.

England?

Sit back down and wait until the next tournament to get bitch slapped like usual.

"Chump. I'm done with you."
