I was at the game and have to say I wasn't overly impressed. Sure we played better than we have been but Costa Rica hasn't been playing well either. Adding to that, they were playing a man down for most of the game. Then two men down and we still couldn't put the nail in the coffin. I found that somewhat embarrassing.

I think we're going to win this tournament playing like shit. For some reason I think that we'll meet the US in the final and for the first time they will actually outplay us but somehow we'll win. They'll get a taste of what we've been experiencing at their hands with those mickey mouse tactics.

I also want to add that Arce should start along with either Bravo or Nery. Put Blanco and Bofo behind them. Medina and Guardao at their sides. Torrado and Marquez in the middle. Osorio and Salcido at the seams. It'll be insane!

Torrado played good, when he was on I think he was the best player on the field. Played great defense and controlled the midfield somewhat. If only he played like that every game.

Maza and Oswaldo made some mistakes early on that made me sh1t bricks.

I want to bitch slap hugo for plaing Maza, wtf is he thinking.

I used to be indifferent about Oswaldo and Memo, but I think its just time to put Memo.

Cuauh had a good game, he started the play of the goal with a beautiful pass to bofo who himself made a beautiful pass to borgetti.

Bofo played good too, gave another beautiful pass to borgetti who didnt take advantage of it. Again.. if only bofo played like this every game..

Bravo was invisible, didnt do anything. He could have proved himself this game but didnt. I think Kikin has done more in the time hes been on the field.

I still think it was a horrible game.

Mexico played a 10 man Costa Rica for a couple mins of the first half and the whole second half and couldn't score. There were times where it seemed Costa Rica had a full squad and they were putting the pressure on us. There is no excuse for that and I feel almost embarassed that this can happen to us.

We're Mexico, the ********ing self-proclaimed giant of concacaf. And we can't ********ing finish off a 10 man Costa Rica ? WTF is that ?

I didn't see Mexico play better. Yes we won, but look at who we played, and how many players were on the other team.

We won by "la minima diferencia", and Costa Rica finished the game with what 8 men ?

Pathetic

I'm not a hugo hater, I support him very much. I wish aids on Lavolpe, but this has to change. There are things that all new teams go through, but some of the things that have gone on with this Mexico are pathetic and for those things there are no excuses.

I liked what I saw today.

It's about improving upon.

And we're definitely improving as we advance.

Remember that it's the end result that matters, and that little tournament that begins a few days later.

What happened was we couldn't score.

Borgetti missed 3 but put away 1. He was 1-4. Typical. I hate him. But he's the only one scoring.

Was glad to see the 2dmids disappear.

We were unfortunate to not walk away 2-0 at the half. I don't care what anyone on BigSoccer says. We laid it on them. They did not return us the favor until the bombardment of Oswaldo in the 85th mintue.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and declare that Guardado is injured right now but neither him nor Hugo Sanchez are revealing this information.

Torrado = player of the game.

Saborio was fortunate to not have gotten carded earlier. He had 8 hacks in a row. Aleman had 1 and he was tossed.

Medina played a better 2nd half.

Cuauh and Bofo worked.

Bravo was nonexistent. Wish we could've had Nery today to sub in for him.

Osorio is a lot better defending than he is attacking right now. Great ball recovery.

Salcido is playing a lot better overall.

Magallon is still nervous.

Maza is still Maza.

Oswaldo needs to realize it's Ochoa's national team.

"Maza is still Maza."

Explain that one. He played a lot better today and was really aggressive. Plus, he's a good actor. ;)

I don't think so, he played the same way he always does.

He started the game off giving the ball to saborio or one of the CR forwards and created some problems.

He sucks and does not deserve to play for el tri.

Is it better to use Marquez as a D-mid or were Magallon is vs Guadeloupe?

I actually liked the lineup of "las tres abejas assessinas" Blanco, Bautista and Borgetti. Hope Hugo uses this again.
Bofo jugo con algo de corazon contra CR, casi lloro, y jugo defensa el cabron y robo un balon!!

Bofo seemed to be the only one that gave Borgetti great passes. guardado had some but were a little off.

Did you guys realize that's the first time Bofo has ever played with Blanco before?

If that's what Bofo needs to play inspired, I say start them both. We'll just have to find a slot for a third defensive midfielder. :D :D

I'm astoundend that the Ticos are actually complaining about the refs after how dirty they played yesterday. If anything they could have gotten more cards. And they are still complaining about being with 3 guys when

A) the brought it to themselves with their dirty play.

B) the second red card happened with Mexico already winning and the third card happened with 1 minute to go.

C) Mexico was shit and yet even when they were 11 vs 11, they were superior to the ticos.

They are actually saying about conspiracies and with a straight face.

I'm stoked about our chances...
People continue to dismiss the quality of our play, but hey, we're in the semifinals. We are playing against a team we should win. Someone posted that we'll lose 4-0 to Guadalupe...please! It's funny that before this competition almost everyone was ready to anoint El Tri as the next big thing, and a couple of rough games pass and now we're going to get blown out by a country most of us have never even heard of.

I'm extremely optimistic about our chances, because besides surviving the group stage and the suspensions, we've shown improvement. The defense looked solid for the first time, the midfield kept possession most of the game. The only thing we lacked was creative chances. But, that's what happens when you have Bravo in there and no one to give him any passes. If we can dominate possession again but include Cuau and Nery, with Jared then scoring will come easier. Jared will find a way to score, if given passes. We need Bofo and Blanco to be playing (not necessarily together). Without them we will get no goals...period.

I also wanted to make clear that we deserved to win because we were the better team. The refs have been horrible all tournament but the Ticos brought the red cards on themselves. They initiated the game playing dirty and paid the price...good! Didn't we blame Blanco when he got red carded? Shouldn't we use the same criticism on the Ticos. We deserved to win because we kept the ball, had more chances, and maintained our composure. Everyone wanted a goleada but it's always difficult when a team bunkers. This team is starting to find itself...be patient! Hugo's been here about six months and it's his first competition. His moves are improving, putting Bofo and Blanco together was risky but it paid off. Some were complaining that we were the slowest, so what? Bravo, Guardado, and Medina are fast, what did that produce?

Now, I think we have an advantage. Through questionable line-ups and suspensions, we are going to have some fresh legs out there. Most teams couldn't afford to change their line-ups too much (lack of depth) and fatigue might start to set in.

Was Torrado playing crap on purpose in the Lavolpe era? Because his game seems to be slowly going back to his 2000-2003 form. All he needs now is the good ol' long shots at goal to seal the deal.

for the most part, i liked what i saw yesterday. the team looked much more organized and had possesion for the entire game. but once again, where were were lacking was in the "final touch". we had enough plays to be able to make this game at least a 3-0 win, but as always the ball didn't want to go in. slowly, but surely, the team has been getting better and the players seem to be getting more and more familiar with eachother. not only that, but the players actually seemed like they wanted to play! unlike the first 3 games. i was kinda iffy on having Jimmy Lozany play in a position he normally never plays, but he pulled it off pretty well. the defence, except for the first 5-10 min, looked solid. hell, Maza had a good game

So many say Mexico looked better this game.

Well no sh1t we played a 10 man Costa Rica for more than 50 percent of the game.

How the hell are we not going to look better ?

And we couldnt even score in regulation time.

I cant believe some of you say you guys liked what you saw

Panfilo's Analysis:

La neta they played like crap.

Ya, the team held possession and played like a Mexico we would all recognize.

Pero, it only occurred after the first red.

For the first 43 minutes Mexico and Costa Rica both stunk it up. Both teams trying to hold the ball and losing it fairly quickly. One thing though Costa Rica's entire midfield was missing.

After the red card Costa Rica dropped back because they were playing with a man down.

Uggh, if you want to beat Mexico or atleast make their life miserable play one of two ways. Pressure the midfield and cut the team in two so they can't hold possession as long as they normally do. Or bunker and let them move the ball around, because we all know Mexico f'kn struggles with this.

Once the two teams established how they were going to play, it had a 1-0 Borgetti goal all over it. So much so, that I watched the Real game until it ended. (What's up with Posh's hair and was joined by Mr. Top Gun himself. You think Becks a scientologist?)

Me da hueva ser el analisis de cada jugador.

I'll just say this:

Good
Torrado
Bofo
Osorio
Borgetti- only because he scored, it would have been a crappy game if he hadn't.

Average
Cuauh
Lozano
Guardado
Medina- Only because after the red card he showed up.
Salcido
Magallon
Arce

Bad
Oswaldo- Try not to pass it to him
Bravo- This is for tu amigo. He f'kn sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Break his leg
Maza- Who cares what he did, just break his legs anyone. Por favor.

Todo el pais te lo agradecera.

Saborio straight up fouled Mexico 3 times in a row to start the game. He had another 5 fouls and then Aleman was red carded. Still nothing for Saborio.

Badilla and Nunez were playing like horseshit, too.

I disagree that Mexico was shit, as the only thing missing was a goal. And perhaps better play by Guardado, Jared and Bravo. Oh, and the lousy-ass Gringo Castro-like Ricardo Osorio we've been watching.

Okay, they weren't complete shit, but there's room for improvement.

Remember how the FMF fined and suspended Hugo for being outspoken?

I wonder if FIFA will begin to crack down on international coaches openly criticizing the refs, because Hernan Medford was ripping them a new one, much like Rafa said, with a straight face.

Mexico dominated from beginning to end.

And we've still got ways to go.

Shit's getting better, I'm telling you.

Bravo still needs to start doing something.

And I'm totally convinced Guardado is playing injured.

For the first 43 minutes Mexico and Costa Rica both stunk it up. Both teams trying to hold the ball and losing it fairly quickly. One thing though Costa Rica's entire midfield was missing.

This was largely because México was pressuring high, with Bravo and Borgetti running themselves ragged [especially Bravo] to block Costa Rica from getting the ball out of their own half with any sort of clarity, which helped us get the ball back more quickly. Bravo as a goleador has yet to appear, but in terms of off-the-ball tactical value, he works and works and works. So did Borgetti, but he at least had the good luck of getting a reward for it.

The improvement of the team was encouraging. Didn't quite have the precision necessary to break down Costa Rica in their own area, but the defense was more secure, the ball recovery was better, the overall passing was better, individual players like Salcido looked more solid than they had previously.

Medford's complaining about the refs even after Camacho practices his kung fu on Blanco. Lame.

That's like 5 red cards in two games from the opposing teams. These bastards are out for blood. We should have brought Hernández Lash.

No you misunderstood

Costa Rica's starting midfield (A team) did not play.
