Not the most important news in the world, but...
From the BBC:
A new Premier League theme tune will be played when teams toss the coin before each fixture next season, with DJ Judge Jules's old top-flight tune being replaced by a ditty composed by Peter Lawler. It was recorded at the Abbey Road studios by session musicians and will also be used on the preview and review shows that are screened the world over. (The People)

You really don't need to hear it to know that it's gonna suck the proverbial weener.
Every ground should have The Liquidator playing uncensored 30 seconds before kick off, at which point there should be no music at all.

Peter Lawler has posted a clip of the new Premier League Anthem on his myspace page and has also blogged about the project. The name of the song is, "My Saturday Self." Sounds very much like a Who song.

Anyone have another link? Looks like he took it down from the myspace page. Most likely cuz too many people were telling him it sucked. I need to see for myself tho.

They had a package on the new anthem as part of the 'Premier League World' show on FSC today. I'm no rocket scientist, but the background music I heard was similar to what Lawlor was playing in the footage at Abbey Road so I'd figure it's the anthem. If it was, then it's not terrible, it's just not something that I would peg as 'anthem' type music.
EDIT: Just pulled it on his myspace, and yeah that's it. Not terrible, just not your typical anthem material in my book.

Absolute rubbish song. I like the songs played at Elland Road
As players run out for kickoff: second half of Tin Tin Out- Strings for Yasmin (from the Vinny Jones film Mean Machine)
Its a real anthem, builds up the atmosphere/ bit trancy though.
As players run out second half- Brainbug- Nightmare
. I'd go for Evertons Z cars as well.
They are both on limewire, see what you think.....?

http://www.myspace.com/peterlawlorWhat the bloody hell was that? The guitar line sounds like something I wrote in 4th form music composition class . . .
And what's with the synthesizer underneath? I thought the EPL commissioned an anthem, not something to listen to while you pop ecstasy tablets and roll around on the floor, rubbing your nipples and chewing on a glow stick.

that is absolute gash. Clubs should be allowed to play there anthems when the teams come out
Nowt better than hearing your teams tune blasting out as the run out the tunnel, straight to the home end. This lineing up and having a EPL set anthem is bollox.
remember as a kid Sunderland running out to Z-Cars. Mint.
My other favourites are Newcastles Local Hero  . Its is a great tune though. Man Citeh's Blue Moon. I also love going to Goodison when Sunderland are playing Everton cos it reminds me of when I was young at Roker Park, Z-Cars again.

i think its a great idea to have jus one EPL anthem played b/c it represents all teams...and honestly i don't think it will be ideal to have each team with an anthem

Worked like that for years, fans are used to seeing their team run out to their music.
We don't want any americanised crap in the EPL.

I don't care for it. I think clubs should be able too choose which songs too play.

It's shit, bring back the old one. Or just don't have any music at all. These 'anthems' sound so out of place, you're stood there watching Bolton and Portsmouth's cloggers walk out onto a rain sodden pitch in the middle of nowhere in front of a half-empty stadium full of old men with flat caps, whilst some 'epic' anthem plays over the tannoy, it couldn't be more incongruent.

Awful, just awful, but then so is the idea of having a league "anthem".

I don't think it fits well, but then whenever a theme song you've heard hundreds of times over years gets replaced you never like the new thing right away.
Apart from that, the first time I heard it I said "is that an obscure Who song from 1980?" Then I realized it was just a rip-off of their style, complete with Townshend power chords and Moon drum fills... both of which pale compared to the real thing!
Long live rock...
