I'd love to see these modern players play with the old wooden racquets, I think it would make some of these power players pretty useless! ;)

My hero back then was Big John Newk, I remember stories about how he'd stuff his bathtub with beer and ice the night before the final at Wimbledon. He said it helped him relax...!!!! No shit..
Write a book. I did...http://images.alibris.com/isbn/9781929258017.gif
Three editions of this one. My wife did most of the writing, I did articles, photos and cover.
The one you suggest I write, well to be factual and interesting I'd have to hide it from my wife...:)
Thanks though.

Some trivia I didn't know, found it looking for photos of John..
Still active in tennis, he was made captain of Australia's Davis Cup team in 1995. Notoriously, he was revealed to be President George W. Bush's drinking companion on the night when he was charged with driving under the influence. This controversy surfaced during the 2000 US Presidential Election.

I am sure there was a few of you that watched the Wimbledon men's final today.
Great tennis match.
Heartbreaking to see Roddick lose after playing so well. I hope he eventually gets the Wimbledon title he rightfully deserves.

Rightfully deserving of a Wimbledon Title would be Pat Rafter, however some things aren't meant to be, and Roddick winning Wimbledon is probably one of those! ;)
So's a Scot winning it for that matter- Talk about desperate Poms trying to latch onto anything British to claim them! :D

Roddick doesn't deserve it. He doesn't have the all-around game.
I didn't watch it today. I was watching le tour.

He doesn't normally have the all-around game, but he played well and he was consistent enough today to deserve it.

Well, I read that he broke Federer twice (and was not broken) in the first 4 sets.

Roddick played great today and has played great all tournament. He did deserve it. However, Roger deserved it more. It was a great match. Not as great as last year, but still great.
I gotta order my tickets for the US Open.

I didn't get to see much of Wimbldon, didn't expect that Scottish git Murray to make the final, even though he's got Federers number. Got to be able to beat a 150mph serve on grass to get there.
Roddick...a one trick pony.

Pat Rafter The consummate 'also ran'. His book title should be.
"How I almost won Wimbedon, the Oz, the French and couldn't keep the Davis Cup team together."
So I try this: :D

Andy Murray on the other hand is going more macho. He beat 4, 7 year olds in this round but was beaten by an experienced driver of 9.
But then Murray doesn't have his DL yet either.

Queensland’s new $82 million tennis centre has been named after local hero and two-time US Open champion Pat Rafter.
The centrepiece of the new home of tennis in Queensland was today crowned ‘Rafter Arena’ in honour of the Queensland tennis champion.
The two time US Open winner and former world No.1 today joined Premier Anna Bligh, Sport Minister Judy Spence and Tennis Queensland CEO Tom Larner to unveil the name of the 5,500 seat centre court stadium at the soon-to-be-completed Queensland Tennis Centre.

How can that top two, not one but two Spiney Tailed Lizards. Murray and Andy. Hmm if they're both male that could be a problem.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

'Bout time we got this up and running again.
The US Open starts on the 31st of Aug.
Can Nadal make a comeback.
Can Federer win another GS.
Can Murray get over Wimbldon and win on the hard.
Can Roddick win every one of his service games to love with 190 MPH serves and still lose the match.
Can Pat Rafter win his third US Open.
Watch this space.
I started playing again recently, after 7 years without hitting a ball. First time out I had trouble hitting the ball as well. I wasn't the worst on the court but I was the least consistant.
Got a tough doubles match tomorrow am against a couple of young 40 year olds, so I went out and hit a few serves on the way back from the office. Not bad, the serve has always come easy to me. But I felt it. Methinks a few Ibuprophen pre match is in order...:)
Oh yeh, I liked Rafter, he was fun to watch.
