I Remember When The Mls Was Just Starting To Take Flight. They Promised Two Nyc Teams. The Metrostars And Another Team Placed Either In Queens Or Long Island. The Local Rivalry Was Going To Be Great!!! The Weekends Filled With Passion And Enthusiasm. A Place Where You Could Go With Your Friends And Family. But Then They Decided That Only One New York Area Team Was Enough. They Didnt Want To Repeat The Mistakes Of The Nasl In Having An Extremely Dominant Nyc Area Team.
Thats Probably One Of The Main Reasons Why The Metrochumps Never Really Had A Chance Or Had Good Players. The Red Bulls Now Have A Better Chance Because Aeg Sold The Team. Aeg Owns 5 Teams Well 3 Now Because They Sold Nyc And Now Dc.
The Greater Nyc Area Can Handle More Than Just 2 Teams. It Could Probably Handle One Team Per Boro!!! Its Really All About Marketing And Having The Team Truly Integrate Itself With The Community.
Im Mad That The Mls Lied To Us And Im Upset That We Dont Have A "nyc Clasico" Like Most Cities In The World (dc Really Doesnt Count!)
I Think That The Team Should Be Located In Queens And As Close As Possible To Flushing Meadows Park. This Park Is Where Usmnt Player Carlos Llamosa Played Before He Was Selected For The National Team. Not To Mention The Other Hundreds Upon Hundreds Of Other Talented Players Which Light Up The Soccer Fields Very Weekend. This Is Where The True Fans Are! They Live Here In Queens Not In Nj!!!
Put A True Soccer Team In Queens (nothing Like The Metrochumps Or The Red Cows) And The Stadium Will Come Alive Every Weekend! Have World Famous Clasicos Played There As Well (argentina V Brazil, England V Italy, Barcelona V Real Madrid, Any Two Brazilian Teams, And Lets Not Forget The World Recognized Clasicos Of Clasicos Boca-river) And You Have A Guaranteed And Profitable Business Model!
And Another Thing Nyers Hate Going To Nj To See Ny Teams! Bring The Love Back To Nyc! Ill Be There Everyend!!!

In 1984 Zenit was showing itself to be one of the most complete and balanced teams. In May the Leningrad club made it to the final of the USSR Cup, but lost in extra time to Dinamo Moscow. Its possible that this loss psychologically forced the team to reach for the top of league championship. For the first and only time Zenit became the champion of USSR. Next year the Leningrad club won the USSR Super Cup, and made it to the semifinals of the USSR Cup. In 1986 they earned 4th place in the championship, and for the 4th time made it to the semifinals of the cup. But starting with the next season, a difficult period began for the club, lasting a decade. In 1990-91 and 1993-95 the team played in the First Division of USSR and Russia.
I don't see whats so hard to understand...

I don't see whats so hard to understand...what's hard to understand? Second biggest city in Russia and only one title?
As it happens I can read Russian, just very very slowly, But His Style Of Starting Every Word With A Capital Letter And A Very Limited Use Of Punctuation Meant It Was As Painful To Read As The Adverts On The Escalators On The St Petersburg Metro While You Pass The Time Being Lifted Up From Beyond The Other Side Of The Rocky Mantle Where The Trains Are.

To the thread starter...after painfully reading that, MLS has lied to many people about expansion possibilities. Don't be surprised if you are one of the victims.

The franchise fees and ownership conditions for an MLS team are available. All the OP has to do is to meet those conditions and voila a second NYC team.

I hope that in 2010 or 2011 NYC will have an own soccer team in Brooklyn or in Queens.

I think that yes New York should have two teams as in almost all the other Major Leagues NY has shown that the market can sustain two teams
NHL: Rangers, Islanders, and Devils
MLB: Yankees and Mets
NBA: Only one KNICKS
NFL: Giants and Jets
MLS: Red Bull and ?? Cosmos, another MetroStars ??
New York should have a second team and if it can sustain it it will help the MLS a great deal to possibly holding a permenent spot in the North American sports consious

If NYC provides the Giants or Jets with a stadium, they would be there in a second. It will be very hard to bring another team into NYC within the 5 boroughs. Long Island, maybe. NYC 'proper', highly unlikely.

MLS can barely sustain ONE NY team, let alone two!
Although I think this is more to do with the way the NY franchise has been completely bungled by MLS bosses rather than the viability of the market.

Not only that, just like the guy who started this thread said, NYC residents don't want to go to NJ to see the team. Especially one that always sucks.

Unfortunately both the Giants and the Jets are staying in Jersey. They both have signed deals which will continue to link them to the Garden State for years to come. When the West Side Stadium project fell thru the Jets were then motivated (read forced) to seal the deal with the Meadowlands.
There are plans for a stadium within Flushing Meadows Corona Park and another plan exists for the Willets Point Area, which is presently occupied by junkyards that the city wishes to relocate. These alternate plans are still in valid and allows for a second NYC MLS team to spring up within "NYC PROPER"

I think the MLS could sustain 2 NY teams. But, the team should be added later, after a few more cities have been added. But, they can't have one for every borough though as is suggested, this isn't the premierleauge. I just don't think EVERY SINGLE BOROUGH could sustain a team?
Personally, I'd much rather add a team to another city rather than add another team to NY.

GUYS we will get a NYC MLS Franchise but unfortunately not until 2010 because redbull ny have exclusive rights to the area until 2010, and once NY United opens up for work its gonna be the marker that the MLS is here to stay
