I thought that Guardado had the kind of game that you are describing for Venado. For the most part Venado stayed away from the ball
Medina had the ball a lot more than Guardado. Hugo was calling everything to Venado's side for areason. Guardado was not on his game.

Overall, im happy with Mexicos effort today. I seen an improvement in some players (Osorio and Medina) game today, and aside from Sanchez big error in the first minutes of the game no one had a major brain fart that hurt the team. True, Mexico didnt work Costa Rica after having the man advantage, but it was going to be hard to with everyone sitting in the back ready to defend. The ref was terrible, i think he took too long to give Saboria the boot and errored in tossing one Tico out. But they were playing some rough soccer throughout the game, so the amount of cards they had against them shouldnt be surprising. I think Hugo took too long in putting in Blanco, but his inclusion of Bofo proved to be what broke the game open. You know, for as ugly as Mexico has played, look where they are at. Granted, they arent nowhere near where we would like to see them at, but theres got to be something said for being able to win despite playing poorly.

Lavolpe didn't take our best team to the WORLD CUP. That's because he didn't want Mexico to fully succeed. He wanted to look good so he can get another job, but fully succed, NOT A CHANCE.
This might be one of the most retarded posts I have ever seen.

I'd have to say your is :p
What do you attribute La Volpe not putting together the best team that he could then? Including not even asking Nery to be on the team when he is TEN TIMES the player Bravo is. Just use your brain a little.
Why did Hugo put him on immediately? Hugo loves Mexico and wants Mexico to do the best it can. You can try to fool yourself but Lavolpe didn't. The proof is in the pudding

Well, I haven't seen a seleccion play as bad as the current one is playing, in a long time. I'm not sure if I should be more worried about the fact that Mexico is playing like utter sh!t or that they can get to the semi-finals playing that bad.

Really? Whats your point? Mexico didnt play with a three man advantage for 120 minutes. They were poor for 50 minutes with one more player, but even then they controlled possession and had more chances to score. Typical of Mexico, they couldnt seal the deal consistently.

A few points. Success in soccer is measured in wins and losses (and ties, I guess), not style points. Mexico doesn't have to impress the east german judge to advance. Mexico is getting better, and played fairly well considering that 3 players were unavailable. Also, Costa Rica, other than the US is the team Mexico plays the most. Both teams are very familiar with each other. It was going to be a close match either way. Costa Rica was happy to take it to penalties, and Mexico kept pressing without panicking. In the end, Mexico imposed their will.
Mexico played better, they did not play great, but it is an improvement. My personal MOM was Jimmy Lozano, who played out of his comfort zone and played well enough. But the biggest difference today was the passing of Maza and Magallon, who looked awful in this aspect all last week.
For you folks that bag on players for one thing or another, remember that soccer is not a precise sport. It is very rare that a player will connect on every one of his passes, shots, etc. Some days they are more imprecise than others, but even so, they still have one or 2 great touches that can mean the difference in moving on, or not. That is why Guardado, Borgetti, Medina, et al are on the pitch. Real life is a little different than video games.

I'm not one to say that LaVolpe loved Mexico. Perhaps he did, and perhaps he didn't. My guess is that he has a soft spot in his heart for Mexico.
As for putting the best team on the field, he put what he thought was the best team out there. He accomplished quite a bit for someone who didn't put a bunch of ego maniacs on the team. A lot of you xenophobes will never give him credit, but he did help put some of our talent on the map. Us not advancing past the Argentina was sh*t luck. A mistake by Borg, an injury to Pavel and Guardado. That's part of the game.
Hugo puts our "best team" on the field and look how horrible we look against mediocre competition. Struggle against Cuba, loss to Honduras, sweat out a win against Panama, and now struggle to score on a mighty shorthanded Costa Rica. The reason he put all the big names on the team is because of his mouth. He mentioned Copa Oro being a must win, and making the semi's in Copa America. He's hoping our big names somehow shine again and make his tactical-less mind look ok.
The Nery subject, well maybe LaVolpe didn't approach him the right way. He's not the politician Hugo is.

As for the match, I did see some improvements on the field. That said, I have seen our players play much better. I was happy that our team had the ball on CR's side of the field. But as someone stated before, we have major problems scoring. Hugo is a lucky man though. He was lucky enough to be handed the team at a time that the prior coach helped develope talent. That and the fact that some of the youngsters from the Championship U-17 team will be making a little bit of an impact soon. I figure that will help our scoring issues. Gio, Vela should help out mightily with that. In the meantime, I hope Hugo reads Coaching For Dummies. I'd hate for our players to go to waste.

I believe mexico is playing a lot better. I really didn't see any huge mistakes like in the first 3 games. The passing could be be better but , DID YOU SEE THE HORRIBLE FIELD. the ball never rolled, it bounced.
(MAybe sanchez's kick to the costa rican forward in the first minutes, but hey it happens...)
