Lothar Matthaeus has been sacked as joint coach of Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg due to differences in club policy. The 46-year-old, who still had another year remaining on his contract, had been coach alongside Italian Giovanni Trapattoni for just a single season.
The announcement released on the club's Web site said the board had unanimously decided to part company with immediate effect.
"Differences of philosophy meant that a good working relationship would not be sustainable in the long term," said the club, who will play in the Champions League qualifiers this summer.
Trapattoni will stay on as sole coach at the club, the runaway winners in Austria last season. "We have come to this decision in order to ensure that the dressing room is calm and focused as the club heads into its most important season ever," said sporting director Oliver Kreuzer.

Family emergencies, mental relaxation on the beaches of France, and trying to come up with the right excuse to his wife for banging the poor foreign housemaids he may have under employment.

Ah no. In fact he was working too hard! :p

He had too little competencies and he did not like some transfers Oliver Kreuzer (the sporting director) made.

Furthermore his tactical visions (powerful offensive soccer) were too different from the one Trapattoni has (tactical tentative play).

Its known that Matthäus is a difficult person to deal with and lately he brought too much disquietness into the team.

His work on the field wont be missed too much but he is a well-known personality.
