Even if Mexico does not win vs Panama tomorrow in Houston, they can still advance as one of the best 3rd place. If they finish in 3rd place, then they will have to face USA and be humiliated once again. If hope USA get a chance to play big mouth Hugo Sanchez and his weak poor devil Mexican national team. By far, this Mexican team is a total embarrassment. This is the worst Mexican national team I’ve ever seemed. Now, from being the “Concacaf Giant”, now they are just an insignificant poor national team. Go USA.

i think you're writing their obit a bit too soon.
and it's not like we've been looking like worldbeaters ourselves.

You can still advance through the Gold Cup in third place? How?

Yeah, I agree with the above statements; before the Cup started I thought that it was a sure thing that Mexico would be a frontrunner but I've been shocked at just how "average" they look. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them knocked off by a Guatemala or Panama.

This in this Gold Cup, the best 2 third places get to advance to the semifinals, as simple as that.

I'd like to see us face Mexico on June 16 in Foxboro (when they have to make an extra trip and have shorter rest) as opposed to other chances to face them which would be later in Chicago.
So, I'm really rooting against a Mexico win tomorrow.

It would be a big let down playing them in the quarter-finals. I'd rather see them in the finals. Even with their poor play they would be dangerous to play. We can't be complacent against them. That being said, my predict 2-0 U.S.
I'll go out on a limb with that one.

i think we'd be better off playing them in the quarterfinals then semi's. The teams been lackluster and a quick game after group play against the US would suit us best.

Any team, but Mexico can be a challenge for USMNT. I do not longer consider Mexico a big opponent. This is like Manchester United playing vs an USL team. I'm wondering when big mouth Hugo Sanchez will be let go. I'm sure he will head to Copa America and then in the hexagonal of South Africa world cup. I'm not even sure if he will last a full year.

What does it matter when we play them? The only possible scenario is
DOS A CERO

what makes this Mexican Nat Team so poor ? I don't follow mexican soccer .
It it poor player selection or a new style of play Hugo is trying?
and then ?
what makes mexican clubs so much better then MLS clubs, do they have better foreign players ?

I assume you are kidding, right? I mean I don't like Mexico but there are 2 big dogs in CONCACAF (US and Mexico). Any time they square off it's a big deal. It just is. I really don't like potentially playing them 3 times or more this year but that's the way it is.
Manchester Utd vs. a USL team? Dude, did you see the T&T or the Guatemala games this year? We aren't that good and they aren't that bad.

I hate to be the killjoy here, but the US has not looked any better than Mexico so far in this tourney. Yes, Mexico lost (against a team better than the two we have played), but then we haven't looked good at all, either.
We looked awful against Guat and we were useless without Lando against the T&T JV team. So let's not get too carried away with the Mexico obits.

We've definately looked better than El Tri despite the grumblign on these pages. Whether that will continue in game 3 and beyond, who knows...
That's said, I think it's correct that we shouldn't simply write off Mexico in this tourney. Too many people seem to expect us to beat them due to recent results, but I think that's silly bravado. Mexico is a very dangerous team and I for one would simply be happy with winning against them.

It seems to me that other than Guardado and Castillo their big name players have not shown up at all in this tournament. Bofo, Blanco (why does that dimwit have to come to Chicago, boo), Pardo, Salcido, etc... have looked very average so far. They seem to not really want to be there to me and think because the shirt says Mexico that they will brush aside everyone without effort. It's not necessarily player selection because Mexico has many world class players. Above all else, Hugo is an excuse making numnuts. They would be way better off with LaVolpe, at least he was tactically aware and could inspire the players.
