Where should we stay?
Go for something central-ish and with its own car park, cause parking is crap, although the buses are pretty good. Dunno which hotels are the best though - never needed one.

Where should we eat?
There's endless places in town - what kind of thing do you like?

Where should we try to sit at Ninian Park

Don't. Its about the only place you can still stand these days, so take advantage of it while you can - go on the bob bank terracing.

What's the best way to get to Cardiff from Gatwick,

Train or car? In a car, get onto the M25 west then the M4. On a train, you'd need to change at either one of the London stations (I forget which) or Reading.

and once in Cardiff, what's the best way to get to the stadium?

From Cardiff Central, cross the river and go straight on until you get to the end. Then go left under the railway bridge, then left again just after and you're on sloper road - its half way down on the left.

Thanks for the info, and more suggestions are welcome. In particular, any good curry takeout suggestions or your favorite pubs? I was there back in 2002 and I had a couple of pints of Skull Attack at a little place on a corner near the castle.

Curry and beers, now we're talking! :D

If you're after convenient cheap but bland, there's plenty of Wetherspoons about, Prince of Wales, Gatekeeper, central bar etc. which are nice enough but more or less the same as every other 20,000,000 wetherspoons pubs out there. A mate reckons the Goat Major near the corner of St Marys st up near the castle is pretty good for the real ale type stuff but I've never been there. I seem to remember Dempseys, near the castle being pretty good but I don't remember too much about that night! The Flora on Flora St. is good, but its probably not worth a 20 minute walk. Most of the pubs I tend to go to are the student-aimed chainpubs around Cathays, so if you're after characterful little places, I'm probably not the person to ask. Basically, with pubs as long as I can get something to drink I'm not fussy so uh, yeah, ask someone more discerning :p

Good curries, well, there's a place in the brewery quarter thats pricey but pretty good, spice something or other from what I remember, there's also Juboraj on Mill lane that a mate reckons is good, but I've never been there. I tend to just buy cheap takeaways from Spice Box, a little takeaway place on Woodville Road - pretty good if you want something good and cheap, but about a 20 minute walk from the centre and its not exactly a restaurant just a takeaway.

I'm beginning to wonder i the Bluebirds are EVER going to make a penalty. And the Battery looked pretty good against my FC Dallas in the US Open Cup, though Dallas was able to squeak by.

Evening Bluebirds,

Was wondering if you could tell me how long Steven Thompson is supposedly injured for, and whether or not you've heard any rumours about him returning to the SPL in this transfer window.

Cheers.

He's injured until around January when we'll be looking to sell for pennies. I've heard no mention of the Scottish Premier League in particular, but I suppose that would be the most obvious choice. He'd do well there, especially if he can learn the importance of attempting to score to a striker.

As for Coventry, the less said the better. But I will say this, though; f*cking c*nts.

After the Sjoke and Coventry debacles I wonder why year on year I splash out for a season ticket.

Warren Feeney is just plain sh!te, a fairy who goes down way to easily and ironically this got us the dodgy penalty. That miss from 6 yards out with the goal asking for the ball to be put in it. ARGHHHH! To think he got a contract for 3 years as well, his agent must be f*cking brilliant at his job. Parry and MacLean are not big lads so why fire high balls all day to them when they are going to get out muscled in the air. DJ lost the plot by having neither '2 goals midweek' Hasselbaink or Fowler on the bench and the less said about Darren Purse the better. I could of put a bullet through that tossers head on Saturday. Last minute penalty, you either keep your body over the ball and thump the f*cker or place it in one of the corners. I despair at times, why couldn't the rumours be true about Charlton wanting Purse for £1 million, I'd seriously give him away for free!

I guess this is a typical start to a City season, onwards and upwards!

Cowtown, loads of decent hotels in the city these days, depends what you are after with a Jurys, Hilton, Marriott, etc knocking about the city centre. As for pre-match beverages, can't fault the Prince of Wales which is in the centre of down on St. Mary's Street and within a stones throw of Cardiff Central as well as O'Neills and the Brewery Quarter (Which has restaurants such as Hard Rock Cafe and so too). Albeit it is a 20 minute walk from Ninian Park but a decent place to get started, likewise with the Westgateor Dempseys (didn't the Dutchies smash that palce up?) which is near the Castle. Try to avoid the Ninian Park pub nearer the ground though, seems the scum element of our football club seem to inhabit there/outside loitering. Best pubs near the ground are the Lansdowne, Corportation and Canton RFC. Plenty of restaurants in and around St. Mary's Street so should find something for your fancy, and if you don't could always fill up down Chippie Lane:p Here's a very basic map anyway:

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9712/cardiffqm5.gif (http://imageshack.us)

Highlighted the main areas, Ninian Park is very easily accessible by rail or car, if you do come by car be aware of the extortionate car park fees so park in one of the streets near the ground. Walk from Central Station is about 20 minutes (3-4 minutes easy in a Cab for around £4-5) more or less adjacent to the westbound railtrack until you go under the bridge on to Sloper Road.
Best place to get tickets, for seats it's the Grandstand, for good ol' terracing it's got to be the Bob Bank. Anyway here's a few links for you:

Just popping in to see how God is travelling down there?

Is he seeing much game time and is he scoring?

Ta in advance.

He's yet to play in a competitive match and is fatter than a rotund elephant.

He is expected to play some part in tonight's Carling Cup second round tie against Leyton Orient, though, so I'll tell you how he got on tomorrow.

I wish he chose the effin' A-League now; at the moment he appears like he's going to be a complete waste of £15,000 per week.

I found that repeatedly punching my dad's dashboard as he was giving me a lift back to my house in Cathays was extremely therapeutic, but I've had enough of watching wank like our last thirty-five league games and I want Jones sacked now before I break my hand.

From the Internet audio feed, it sounded like He and JFH are at least still a cut above League One.

That chip over the 'keeper from 20-25 yards that hit the bar from Fowler was quite impressive, I must admit.

Great weekend in all with Feeney going to the Jacks on loan, oh how I laughed when I found that out:D

Fowler: I need some time (http://www.itv-football.co.uk/story/0,19239,6145_2709014,00.html)

Cardiff striker Robbie Fowler insists he needs to be given time to regain full fitness following his goalless start to life at Ninian Park.

The 31-year-old Liverpool legend was recruited in the summer by the Bluebirds but a thigh injury curtailed his involvement in the first four games of the season.

He has since featured in the Carling Cup win over Leyton Orient and Saturday's victory at Norwich, though he admits he was relatively ineffectual at Carrow Road.

Fowler said: "It's been a long time since I played and when you play well you play well, but it wasn't one of my better games.

"But it's another hour under my belt and that puts me in good stead.

"Hopefully I can build on that. I need a little bit more sharpness, to be fair."

I think he's right and if he doesnt get injured again, I think he'll put in around 10-12 goals this year!

We got our tickets, in the Grandstand, deciding that our American-ness required a piece of designated real estate for the duration of the match. We'll probably hit the Corporation before the match, but we're still looking for a hotel... wish us luck.

I also had a painful reminder that we are not in our own country when I called the ticket office from our hotel in London, and heard the woman on the other end say something that sounded to my ear like, "Amma blah blah gomma Ground?" I tried to give the phone to the wife, who has family in Wolverhampton, but she waved me off, telling me I was the only one of us who was going to sound like an American A$$hole today. I tried once more, was just as confused, and then I said I had a bad connection, hung up, and bought the tickets online.

I'm sure there's some poor woman at the ticket office thinking that Americans are all idiots... which is unfair, because it's only me.

Thanks to everybody who had recomendations! We had a few pints at the corporation, then went down to the park. Everything (except the result) went better than we ever could have hoped. We love Cardiff, and we'll be back as soon as we can make the time.
