Just curious who had the huge printed banner (Suck it up Landycakes, Venezuela awaits, or something like that) in Sec 138 at today's Gold Cup game. Regardless of what Donovan has said or done regarding the CA, I'm wondering how that was helpful to the USMNT?

it isn't helpful. It is a comment by little boys who like to **** off watching soccer on TV.

I prefer watching soccer while standing in a section. Not a small dude either.

Yeah, real smart. Hang a banner berating your team's best player. Whoever thinks this is a bright idea is a moron.

All too common. Dumb fans single out their favorite teams' best players and blame them for not meeting unrealistic expectations - like not waxing every opponent 4-0 because every 1/2 chance wasn't put away.

yeah that was pretty retarded, Landon Donovan is the glue that makes the national team work. It loses its fluidity without him. Like we see in so many anti-Donovan protestors in here, its like English rooting against David Beckham; the functionaire of the England team. It makes little to no sense.

I was disappointed in the "Landycakes" banner too. Has no place at the HDC, IMHO, unless it's a bunch of Earthquakes fans or something. And the geniuses put it up right after Donovan became the all-time points leader for the US (although that wasn't announced at the game.) Let's hope Galaxy fans have more sense than to wish their star away for 2 more games where he's sure to be badly needed.
Donovan showed a lot of class at the end of the game & clapped towards many of the fan sections & was one of the last players to the leave the field.

I would like to think real US fans who(I'm certain) outweigh the hater, wouldnt have allowed it...but the again that would invite more trouble.
How do we put a stop to this, he couldnt have sat with Sams Army, right? Please say it isn't so...

Say what you want about his WC performance (which is a massive thread in and of itself) but he has been one of the top performers for the USMNT since, and if he is starting to mature, I think his glory days are ahead of him.

Id almost hope it actually is a Quakes fan. That would make it a little more bearable. They are the only ones who are allowed to give Landon a hard time, theyre exempt :p. Nothing wrong with a little cross rivalry banter of the biggest rivalry in MLS, even though its not even on right now. Hopefully it will be next year.
So....unless its a Quakes fan :p , im dissappointed

I was there and did not see it. I think he should get the Copa off. I do not take those banners seriously anyway. He had a good game.

******** these "fans" for throwing abuse at someone who has appeared so many times for the US; a player who led the squad to qualification; and a player who was instrumental in our 02 showing. The whole squad was garbage in 06, and Donovan was at least key in getting us the 1 damn point we got in the tourney.
To throw such great blame on a player who wasn't even captain is ridiculous. To ride hiim for wanting to spend at least some time with his club team is ridiculous.
Hooray that the Copa means so much to some of you. Fact is, in truth, it doesn't mean anything other than what it means to your simple petty egos and dreams of faux-glory.
Go ******** yourselves.

At least here we don't have the coach dropping Donovan while the media claims Aaaron Lennon is the answer to all our prayers.

He's on his way to being the best ever outfield player for the US. While I don't agree with most of it, I understand where some of the criticism comes from, but to deny his importance is kind of dumb. Some people like to give meaning to their lives by belittling others (especially those of whom they are jealous).

No to start another argument, but is this (the bold sentence) an implicit acknowledgement that it's okay by you to place this same kind of ridiculous blame on Reyna?

I heard about this banner via World Soccer Daily's show on Fri. I believe a guy called in and said something about a Donovan sign he was going to display. I would have no problem with that sign hanging. The sign could of said something to the effect that we don't need Donovan which would of been distasteful and a dilerbrate stab in the back. Signs are signs. Players don't look at them (at least they shouldn't) I like the passion but I personally would not have displayed it.
