I woke up earlier than normal this morning because, I just started thinking about how we did in the last 4 WC, and I noticed a pattern. We haven't won Game 3 in the last 4 WC's we've been too. We lost to Romania, Yugoslavia, Poland, and Ghana. We got to change that pattern. We also do best in Game 2. Beat Colombia, Lost to Iran, Tied S.Korea, and tied Italy. Still not that good. The other stat that jumps out at me is how we only have one shutout in those 4 WC's, and none in the first round. Not one! We usually shutout teams more than 50% of the time. Granted the level of play steps up in the WC, but we should be able to have more shutouts than that. Is it bad luck? This is another bad pattern that we must change although maybe not as important, as long as we win.

Try Dormicum. It should help you sleep better.

Interesting point about having no shutouts in group play.

Yet, strangely enough, many BS experts decry Bruce Arena for playing a 4-5-1, and believe that the USA should adapt a more offensive approach.

Ya, that's a nice saying, but I do have a bit of a tough time seeing how going on the offence and leaving your backline exposed will not be deadly against the top teams in the world, who punish you with the slightest of mistakes. I do think you are right about the 4-4-2, that's should provide sufficient defensive cover.

Better players is the key.

I believe the key to winning game 3 is depth. We required a ton out of guys like Donovan, McBride, and Reyna. If we could have got equal contributions out of O'brien, Ching and Olsen then we would have the gas in the tank to compete well in all 3 games. Our players were largely spent after holding in the 9 man Italy game.

But supposedly were getting better in that department.

After watching Cuba and Mexico, we might not have enough depth to win the last game of the Gold Cup... We still have the same problem.
