Well ************.

Anyone see this one? Conditions sounded awful--bad for both teams. Why were our injured players out there to slip around on the wet field? Dangerous. :(

I did. I was there and I'm watching the tape now. The field conditions were unbelievable! There were terrible puddles all over the place and to be honest, it was rather funny watching them slip and slide all over the place. I WAS worried about injuries though. Kelly Lindsay was carted off somewhere in the second half and I felt bad for her. There was one bog right in front of where I was sitting and during one play there, lord, if it didn't look like a flock of birds in a bird bath!! The water went everywhere.

The skies absolutely OPENED around 4pm here. I was concerned about the field and I was concerned about the crowd. Turns out we had a really good one! Under 6000, but I really say it looked like more. It even caused my sattelite dish to go down halfway through the first half of the Pax game. Boy, I was mad!

There was a group of Cyberrays supporters there too. A LOUD one. :) I talked to them for a minute after the game and asked if they were on the boards, but they said no, they actually work for the 'Rays.

Considering the horrible field conditions, both teams played really well. Although we played a little better. :D

oy vey.... right when she was starting to get better :( but what exactly is Ian doing sticking her in the i presume right back (?) position and putting Frenchie in the middle? French can cross amazingly (IMHO) from the left side and so LET HER PLAY ON THE LEFT SIDE! and Boof played college ball in the middle so LET HER PLAY IN THE MIDDLE! there's no sense having her run around so much on her as LaKeysia says "still attatched" knees and risking an injury which judging from the posts she sustained... and i hate sounding so pesstimistic but the 'Rays better find some offense or else we're pretty much screwed... :x

ETA: i seriously thought the CyberRays site said the game was tomorrow... i should've stayed home and yelled at the computer, maybe they would've played better but congrats on Katie Antonvioganni on her goal. it's nice to see some form of offense from someone :)

Oh no, Kelly WAS playing the middle. It was French on the left, Cromwell, Boof, and Di. The defense played fairly well I thought. It was the complete lack of midfield play and total ineptness of the fowards that caused the problem, AGAIN. I wouldn't even blame Greathouse.

i read the match stat sheet wrong then, but it makes me feel better knowing that Boof wasn't running up and down the flanks but it doesn't help that Di was the one running up and down with HER bum knee(s)

oh and a question/clarification: Kelly did go down with a knee injury correct? and if so did it look painful?

from the Power site:

Less than three minutes later, Lindsey’s right knee buckled when she slipped on a harmless clearing attempt and she was carted off. CyberRays’ coach Ian Sawyers said it “looks like she’s going to be gone for some time.”

It looked really bad :(
She was clearing a ball on that horrible field and her plant foot never planted. The plant leg slipped and turned funny, first at the foot and ankle and then at the knee. She immediately grabbed it and the official immediately called for the trainer and the stretcher. I wouldn't be surprised if she's gone for the year again although I hope that's not the case.

*crosses fingers*

i really hope it's not an ACL/MCL or one of those ligament tears :( Kelly has gone through enough knee surgeries to last her 3 lifetimes and i know it sounds really pessimistic but i REALLY hope that this injury won't mean the end for her playing career.... :(

GET WELL SOON BOOF!! WE HEART YOU HERE AT BIGSOCCER!!

I bumped into the team at JFK on sunday morning. One player (Lindsay ?) was in a wheelchair. It appeared to be more an ankle issue than a knee one though...

I spoke to a couple of players in line for Starbucks, and they were royally pissed at the conditions, thinking that the game should have been called off...

Under those sloppy field conditions, the game should have been called off.

Even without Chastain, the laziness on defense remains. This time, it was French who got burned by Janss. NY should really be more cognizant of where Janss is at all times, there was another play a few minutes before that where French left Janss wide-open.

NY's 2nd goal was a result of Lindsey's mistake. Awfully big risk to go for the slide when you're the last defender, and she missed the ball by a mile.

I agree that it looked like it was French's fault that Janss scored since she was closest to her and a little behind her. So, who's fault is it that the ball got crossed? And who should have marked the pass prior to that. I wouldn't say it's laziness though and thought you were a little harsh on the defense. Yes, the defense has been responsible for a few goals for a lack of marking or whatever, but who's responsibility is it to score goals? If you are going to say the defense is lazy, what is the offense doing?

There is no one to specifically blame in this game. All is it was was kickball over the midfield and trying to get the front runners to get the ball. As a team it was not a good game, but I am giving 75% of it to the field. You do need to consider that NY was also on the same field and had the same conditions. It seemed we would beat a player or try to get a shot and then the ball would stop dead.

We need to get these girls pumped up again -

Based on the conditions, I believe the game should have been called to.
