Well, if no one else will start a thread, I need to vent.
Perhaps the worst TV sports broadcast I've ever seen:
1 Opening US lineup was backwards.
2 Spent whole game calling Guatemala GK by wrong name(unless name on his uni was wrong)
3 Missed breakaway to show coach.
4 Missed first Gooch yellow and did not explain it.
5 Missed Ruiz/Donovan collision.
6 Missed Gooch red. Don't these guys have a replay machine???
7Too many annoyances during the announcing to count.Bretos and Miles are just bad, and while Sullivan is interesting, his sentence structure is out of ESOL....
Never thought I would think ESPN looks Emmy winning by comparision....

Actually, they did get the Gooch red. But all your other points are spot on. It was unbearable.

I kept switching between the MLS game and Telefutura.
There's no "R" on the thread title, so I'll lay off commenting on Dave O'Brien's play-by-play call of a certain infraction for now.
Suffice it to say, he was either looking at his notes or was completely clueless to what was going on.
BTW, not sure if the TF announcers said anything but the first Gooch yellow was for kicking.

I remember the original long range shot but not a replay. Might have happened when I was throwing something.....:)

Dave O'Brien didn't comment on anything in the US/Guat game...he works for ESPN not FSC

What this country needs is a channel that specializes in soccer. Oh.

I heard it more than once that Bradley looks up before receiving a pass...see thats the advanced soccer knowledge that FSC can give you because they don't have to dumb down their coverage like ESPN does!
FSC is like Taylor Twellman...gives you everything they got, they just don't have that top quality to win the game for you.
I'm rooting for them to improve though, because you know at least it's important to them and they want to make it a big deal.

But since there's no "R" in the thread, I'll skip his faux pas.

Was Brandy Chastain getting her braces tighten tonight? I think she would have been better. Geez.

I noticed that too, they were calling him by his correct name (Tregueno) but his shirt said "Foster"

I would summarize the entire experience as two hours of nails drug slowly, agonizingly across a chalkboard.

I just wish they could show replays of important plays like the Gooch red card. We saw it away from the play live, but NEVER got a damn replay of it.
The announcers suck horribly. The worst part of it though is when you hear 'Ohhhh and here's Ruiz in the box...' while you see a nice close up of the Guate coach. Nice.
I freakin hate FSC. How can they put together such horrible broadcasts consistently. Even MLS teams have better local broadcasting skills.

The broadcast direction was horrible and Max sucks.
But SUllivan packs more insightful comments into a broadcast than most guys manage in a year. Get past all the crud they gave us and focus on what he is actually saying. I think he's the best soccer analyst working in the US.

Agreed and repped. At least we had Sully to listen to when they missed the shots in the truck. He stopped anticipating replays in the first half when he saw they weren't coming.

Wait a minute.....are you seriously suggesting that the FSC guys were right in their naming of the keeper, and that a BS poster's indignity is completely misplaced?
Heresy.

I have never really listened to Max Bretos before tonight. He could be the worse commentator I have ever heard in my life. Quit trying to be funny, quit trying to be cute, quit giving me these random tidbits about what a player should be doing, quit telling me which players are out of contract, and quit yelling random crap into the microphone aobut a player's nickname. It scared the hell out of me at least twice tonight.
FSC was horrible. The picture was awful. None of they key replays were shown and I missed the drama as a result. I need the drama when I watch a soccer game.
I get the feeling that the Guatemalan keeper uses an actual double-barreled last name, unlike the other Central American players with their matronyms...the Guatemalan press usually uses all three names (Ricardo Trigueno Foster) in referring to him, even when everyone else just has two names.

I couldn't keep track of how many times I said out loud: "Come on, come ON... show the damn game". Whether it was keeping the camera on one of the coaches, or a linesman, or the sideline official holding up the display for added time for like ETERNITY, I just kept thinking how idiotic these directors are. Sometimes it bothers me a little (when there apparently isn't anything of great importance going on), and sometimes it bothers me a lot, like when one of the announcers exclaims something like "OH- here's a breakaway!!". Another thing is the aftermath of a controversial play... someone gets carded, and players start yelling or pushing or charging each other or whatever, and the camera goes to some guy 50 yards away, walking around, looking down at his shoes. Keep the camera pointed where the people who are AT the game are looking!! Is it that hard to figure out?
The lack of replays got to be pretty disappointing, for sure.
Max doesn't bother me, but I can see why he bothers some people. I guess I"m less sensitive to certain things. At least he knows the sport. Maybe he tries too hard sometimes. Sullivan is pretty darn good.

Agreed.
It's pretty amazing how much this continues - unnecessary close ups during the run of play. And it happens on both FSC and espn.
