Arsenal 1 - 2 River Plate
Goles: Autogol by Mariano Brau, sliding the ball into the net after Limia couldn't handle a Gallardo shot from outside the box. Maxi Lopez with the winner at 87' as three Arsenal defenders stumbled around him.

River almost let this get away, but the defensive sloppiness of Arsenal opened the door. The victory was important, coming after Boca's 6-0 slaughter of Velez, allowing us to continue our hold on first position.
17- RIVER
16- Boca
13- Velez
12- Lanus, Estudiantes
11- San Lorenzo, Newell's, Gimnasia
10- Banfirld, Independiente, Quilmes
Estudiantes, Racing and Newell's still play today. ;) ... and then Sunday, Newell's visits River ... with Ortega. :D

Woohoo, two River games in a row on FSWE. El Clasico del Domingo and Futbol de Primera are two of the greatest things ever. EVER.
Nice to see Muneco starting. All of my father's employees are Boca fans, so I took it upon myself to stick River stickers on the back of their work trucks. My dad didn't mind.

Once again River's defense shows very weak points especially on free-kicks. Get that shyt together ! ! !

That first goal was just dreadful. I don't even know what happened to Costanzo there.

Well I really dont blame Costanzo on that one,it went or reflected on the defenders foot which made the ball float over Francos head.
Besides that its game after game when theres a free-kick for the oposing team and see that ball come into Rivers box im just like, dam get it out of there somehow. I really hope Crosa comes in quick eventhough since hes been River almost never played,or have el Coco Ameli back after the tournament is over.
All I know they better get it together when its time to mark Palermo en la fecha 14.

It deflected? I just thought he was caught off his line at the worst possible time.

No, it was definitely a deflection. At first you really couldn't tell, but after they showed the replay from different angles, it deflected off of the leg of a River defender. Don't recall who it was though. It sucks, but that's what happens when you put the ball on target, anything can happen.

River Plate 2 - 2 Newell's Old Boys
Goles: Gallardo, Cuevas
Posiciones:
18- RIVER
16- Boca, Estudiantes, Velez
15- Newells
13- Lanus, Independiente, Quilmes
Next up: Quilmes
Second leg of Copa Sudamerica versus Arsenal coming up Thursday.
Regardless of whether it was deflected--I don't think it was, but I'll re-view it later and find out what player was involved--Costanzo was out of the net. If there's one thing I've never been able to stand, it's keepers roaming from the goal mouth unless absolutely necessary, such as coming out to stop a breakaway.
By the way, who charged into the box early causing Gallardo to have to take a second shot on the penalty? Something else which could have killed us.

The first goal deflected off Mascherano's foot.
Salas is the one who caused Muñeco's first penalty kick to be disallowed.

Who got carded?

Who got carded?
Well, for starters, Newell's DT Amerigo Gallego was sent packing 10 minutes into the match, if that qualifies as being carded.
:D
Early in the second half, Ruben Capria was given a red for a rough tackle of Javier Gandolfi. Arbitro Rafael Furchi evened things up at 34' by kicking Gandolfi out for bringing down Fernando Belluschi.
Jesus Mendez was wrongly red-carded near the end because it was thought he "clotheslined" Luciano Vella with his arm, but replays showed he only brushed Vella's shoulder with his hand. Furchi seemed to be screened by Mendez's back and didn't get a clear view. Vella did a fine acting job. Very unjust call.
Leonardo Astrada has announced that German Lux will be in the nets against Arsenal Thursday night.

(Any word on WHY the Newell's coach was sent packing?)
These red cards affect regular league play only - Correct?
Whats the likely line-up against Arsenal - Lucio and Max and who else? (uh - the flaky outside halfback who bleached his crewcut? - hmm - don't see him on the clubs web site anymore) - Wouldn't they want as strong a line-up as possible given that they have to win by 1 goal to force a PK shootout? - And if they win by 2 then they're on to the next round?

All I know is Gallego was turned in to the referee by the linesman. Probably abusive language.
The reds in league games only concern the league.
The Copa Sudamericana tournament is a two-leg aggregate.
