At my own peril, I refer you to the Arsenal NSR thread of the same order. Essentially, scantily-clad is fine, but no porn!

Porn! I'm offended at the thought of such filth. BTW what are you doing nosing around the Gooner NSR board anyway? Looking for Spurs jokes?

So, my kid's sitting on my lap while I'm watching Sky Sports News, and then they start the Chelsea-Terry-Ten Cate story. He's wandering his gaze about, but as soon as they to go Shearer for a quote, he's ********ing riveted to the TV. Then he goes about his day after Wor Al has his say. Good lad. :D

Tigerdave better be doing his part to put more money in the transfer budget.

I'm so poor I haven't even bought myself a new NUFC kit. But if someone wants to infuse some money into the transfer budget on my behalf, I surely won't protest. :D

Atypical match, with a team from the middle of England playing a team in the middle of Scotland, would be a 5 hour drive - enough to put all but the die-hards off, while the extreme of Plymouth going to Aberdeen, would see the Plymouth fans needing to set off at around turning out time of the local nightclubs if they wanted to make kick-off for a 3pm Saturday match.

I have never understood why traveling to away games is so hard for the majority of English fans. I have driven much longer than 5 hours to see my college play and even more for D1 or Pro games.

After living in South Bend, IN for the last 7 years, I have seen ridiculous amounts of people travel extreme distances for Notre Dame games (even when they are shit). We get approx. 200 - 300 private planes, every hotel within 30 minutes is book, and the population of the city actually doubles during a football weekend.

So why can't the great fans of English soccer travel 5 hours for a game?

but do you do it 20+ times a year? Fans will do it here for big games, but doing it every other weekend for 9 months of the year is something else.

one difference is also the kind of driving. There's a very good reason the cruise control isn't typically offered as a feature on cars here (or at very least it's not a selling point). We don't have long straight fairly empty roads where you can just sit back and relax. Unless you are driving at night, you'll spend the entire time either braking, accelerating, steering, changing gear, changing lanes or stuck in traffic jams. It really is five hours of driving, just as five hours of driving in a city would be. The last time I did a 5 hour drive (Reading to Liverpool, which should only be about 3 hours) when I got there I felt completely knackered and fit for nothing but going home.

The reason why there are no UK road movies

I wasn't going to threadjack the home nations discussion, but figured i could get an answer in my home forum.

Thanks for the insight, but not all of the US is like Iowa and Texas.

The 7 hour drive to Tempe, Arizona to see USC on Thanksgiving looked a lot like that.

However, I understand your point Jared as if you compare the sheer size of the US and the ability for thousands of College Football fans to make it across the country, or long distances week in and week out makes English soccer fans look fickle.

How many away games do teams typically play in a season?

It took me 6hrs to drive from Phoenix to W.Hollywood so 7hrs for OC to Tempe sounds about right.

It's 372 from Long Beach to Tempe (used to make that drive several times a year) and it always took me about 5 hours. Of course you can pretty much do 95 between Indio and Blythe and Quartzsite and Buckeye because even cops don't want to make that drive, so that probably helps the ol' time. :D

Only six or so.

I agree with RichardL, travelling at least 19 times in England would be a pain in the ass.

I kept looking for Tuskin Raiders and Jawas when I stopped in that town.Seriously WTF.:D

When I made the drive it was just me and my wife and we stopped twice and I probably did avg 75 -80 the whole trip. I think ToonUSA is deep in OC though so it could be little longer for him.

That's why, then, because I didn't stop. My car's tank is just big enough to last the entire stretch. :D

6 and a bowl game if you're team does well.

If a team travels away 19-22 times how many times is it longer than 20-30 minutes on a train?
