I think TFC have got themselves a fine play by play man in Nigel Reed.

Yes, absolutely. I had my doubts when his position was announced but I am now a solid supporter.

In fact, he should be calling all televised games. Sorry Gerry, sorry James. Nigel is THE MAN.

He's alright - it would be nice to hear him get a bit more excited though, he seems to barely change his tone when there's plenty to be excited about.

Yeah, he's definitely good. Him and Craig make a great tandem. Even though Craig has a lot to say, he knows when to open his mouth and when to know his role as a colour man and keep quiet.

Ya. You would swear he was the road teams commentator when Toronto scores. He doesnt get too excited.

Nigel Reed has gotten consistently better with each broadcast.

Digg'in this thread as everyone is liking Nigel Reed in the booth! I too like his commentary as I found he did a good job when it came to calling Serie A matches!

We're lucky to have him!

Long live TFC!

He gives TFC that International flavor. And to be honest, watching TFC on CBC, you really do get that EPL feeling with an english commentator. (Sorry, but its true)

Love the guy.

Solid. This from someone who has to watch this via the torrents.

I totally agree - Nigel is doing a great job. I've also been hearing the same said from listeners South of the border. I'd just like him to get a little more excited on the TFC goals.

Forrest also seems to work better with Nigel - I'd even say more so than with Gerry Dobson. And I don't think that he's yet mentioned that he used to play for West Ham during a TFC broadcast, although I think he did during the Canada-Venezuela friendly.

I also think Nigel is better then Gerry. Do you think the english accent has anything to do with it?

I think Reed gets excited enough. Listen to the Chicago game when Dichio scored... or Mo Edu --- "Edu -- they love you!!!!"

The only game Reed didn't get excited for was the Columbus game, in which he wasn't at the stadium (he was calling it off a screen). Craig Forrest was also really subdued during that match. I attribute it to not being there.

Otherwise, I find him as exciteable as he should be on goals. I watched the highlights on MLSnet from the Colorado game, and couldn't believe how sedate the Colorado announcer was. He even called Wynne's nutmeg just a "little cut" and had no emotion during Wynne's moves, as if it was nothing. Even on the Colorado goal, he didn't raise his voice for Gomez's run... only when the goal went in did he yell, but then suddenly his voice dropped back into normal delivery after the goal... weird.

funny thing about Nigel Reed...
when i saw him on CBC for the first time, i was pretty surprised to see what he looked like.
Whenever i heard him on the FAN, i always assumed he was in his late 50's or something just based on his voice... i was shicked to see he was a relatively "young" looking man.

Either way, I like his calls. He and Forrest are quite good.
Let's bring back Graham Leggat (spelling?) for the pre and post game bits.

I love Nigel. and not just because of his accent which brings that English flavour to the broadcast. (but that sure ******** helps!)

he's a great commentator and i totally dig the way he reacts to goals and just the way he observes the game....

when i listen to the American broadcasters it's like the 2 of them are playing a game of chess while they commentate the game.... as if the footy match comes second to what they're doing. (although i do enjoy the guy who called the TOR vs FIRE game for the americans. "YEAAAHHH!!!")

Nigel and Forrest are indeed a great team. the finest in the MLS. scary so early in their partnership but it's true.

ITS ABOUT TIME NIGEL GOT A THREAD!

i feel so sorry for the teams who have to put up with those "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL" announcers... so bloody annoying.

I love English soccer commentators. They always call the game so well spoken. Yes Nigel Reed does add an international feel to the TFC broadcasts as well.

3 cheers for Nigel!!!

I personally love watching games where the commentators do that. Its a matter of opinion.

I usually don't mind it when it feels authentic. However, any time I hear Max Bretos yell "GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL" for 20 seconds I want to bash my head into a wall. I occassionally wonder if the Latin-American dude he gets partnered with on occasion as a colour commentator feels like slugging him. ;)

Cheers!

I would agree, unless the announcer doing that goes by the name of Andres Cantor.
