Last Friday brought to a sorry end a long-drawn out rape case involving former Nigerian international Godwin Okpara after a court in Yvelines near Paris, French found him guilty and sentenced him to 13 years imprisonment.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player, who was a member of the France'98 Super Eagles, was found guilty of raping his adopted daughter.
However, the sad story of does not end there as Okpara's wife received 15 years for her rape and torture, while his mother-in-law received a five-year sentence for failing to come to the aid of a person in danger.
The verdict brought the curtains down of a carrier which started so promisingly when at the World U-17 Championships in Scotland in 1989, the former Obanta FC defender caught the attention of none other than Pele.
The Brazilian, arguably the best player to ever grace the sport, was so captivated by Okara's performance in the heart of the Eaglets' defence that he predicted that he would become one of the best players in the world in future. Also mention as future greats were Victor Ikpeba and Jide Oguntuashe...
What a nightmare; being adopted myself, it's a betrayal on so many levels...
Note for future reference: if you happen to be the most famous club a psychopath played for, rest assured your club's name will appear in the first few sentences...
