View Full Version : How Did You Come to Find BigSoccer?

I've always been a bit curious as to how we all got here. Was it chance? Was this site recommended to you? Are you a serial board poster? What is it?
This thread is to confess how you found BigSoccer where it fits in your day-to-day. Whether you were scouring the net for porn, or those unadulterated pictures of D.Becks, tell us how you got here.
For me, I bumped onto BigSoccer by accident. I remember being on a school computer and reading news that a "huge" Premiership club had some of its players involved in a huge sex scandal that would rock the football world. I really needed to know who it was and hope that they weren't involved in my club, so I began to scour the net and couldn't find much. I clicked on one link that took me to a message board where the topic was being discussed and that is how I ended up here. Thankfully, the scandal had nothing to do with MUFC, and quite frankly, I don't remember who it was that was involved (I'm leaning towards either West Ham or Leeds, but not sure). I lurked for a while and finally decided to join in 2004. Initially I was wary about posting my thoughts, but when a lot of the posters went bananas over some poor results, I made a thread about not going into panic mode. DS responded by posting a pic of an ostrich with its head in the sand. Thus began my BS experience.:)

Saw it referenced in a Ives Galarcep article on soccernet. Ventured over to the United section once I saw that there was one, and lurked a little bit before finally deeming the place worthy of registering.

I would also say by accident. I can't quite remember the details but I think I was doing a search for something on google and this site was among its results.

It was after Porto Knocked us out of the Champions League and me along with a few other United fans began attacking Porto fans for their diving, cheating team. A Portugese mod took it as an insult to his country and perma banned me from their forum, therefore I needed a new home. I searched on google and found this site.
This site is way better anyways.

Stumbled upon it by pure chance I suppose. I can't even remember.

I never played soccer as a kid, so when I started watching, I needed a place to learn the rules and ask questions. I also needed to figure out the English idiosynchransies and different competitions when I would watch Manchester United. I found a few other forums where people were passionate, but people in those places didn't do as much analysis or have the same level of wit and banter. You guys taught me everything I know *wipes tear* ;)

By accident, i tried registering right away but for some reason, it didn't send an email to ANY of my AOL accounts. so I had to wait a couple years then i tried using my hotmail account, voila! But i came across from some internet search..I love this place, such refuge from the real world; you can get lost in here for hours at a time just reading posts. Wondering where the hell the time went!

Was never really into messageboards/forums and one day decided to have a gander on the one on the official site to see what all the fuss was about. After a couple of days on there I saw that they had merit despite not liking that one at all because of the crap moderators who were too draconian. A google search found this place amongst others.

I've come to find BS to be quite entertaining.

Most of my close friends are either into rugby or not huge fans of football. So I found myself with pent up anger or joy that couldn't be released after matches. The solution, join a Footy forum.
I had a good look at a lot of sites, most of which seemed a bit naff, and not much going on. I then stumbled upon BS which seemed like a hive of activity. There was the downside of the Man Utd board posters being a bit unknowledgeable and obnoxious, but hey I thought I'd give you a chance. :D

I think I was reading an article on worldsoccernews.com (a site which I'd actually forgotten about until this thread put it back into my head), and googled whatever it was about for more info. Bigsoccer came up as one of the results, and I got sucked in by the sheer breadth of the site - think about it, at first glance there are a lot of fora here, both on- and off-topic. The mix of serious posting and banter appealed, and here I have parked my electronic arse since.

As funny as it may sound, I was looking for information on where to find the Chris Kay Lextra lettering here in the USA for a Utd kit. I guess I just kind of stayed around...
I've looked around at a few other boards, but quite frankly none of them compare to this one. There's a lot of intelligent conversation and debate here, something which is lacking at a lot of other places. I post a little more than I did when I first got here, but I still consider myself a bit of a newbie -- preferring to keep quiet while I read and learn. And I've learned quite a bit over the last five months -- I thank you all for helping a recent convert to The Beautiful Game find his way.

Hehe, I wanted to talk about the world cup of 2002. For some reason, that one was really important to me and I wanted to garner opinion on it from foriegn people as the English forums are blinkered and full of stupidity, for the most part.
So I typed in "Foriiegn views on world cup 2002" in yahoo and BS came up...and here we are.

I was at a Kansas City game with some of my college roommates and a guy at the game told us about it and that a bunch of them posted on here so I checked it out. A few months later I registered and have been addicted ever since.
