Ok, I admit some of the things I wrote were easy to misinterpret. I'm not blaming the USA or Americans for the commercialism of football. I should have said my condolonces to English fans from a yank. All I meant was being a sports fan I know what it feels like to have corporations rip your team and sport away from you. As in baseball. "My" Cincinnati Reds are no longer my Cincinnati Reds. For one the players hardly stick around long enough for me to get to know them and secondly I feel no loyalty to the city or fans from the current Reds. How and why should i be loyal to a team thats not loyal to me. I was just writing to say I know how English fans feel if this is happening. And thanking English fans for showing me what true passion was all about. Now as for me being a wanna be Geordie or wanna be Englishman I take offense to that. I will not however backdown what i said about preffering the EPL to the MLS. If you prefer the MLS to the EPL, you need to get a doctor to look at that. You probably also like the French basketball league and and William Shatner's version of " Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds" to the original. Ain't nothing like the real thing !

Nothing wrong with liking the EPL..especially americans..its an english league, similar type of "soccer"...just talent levels are WAYYYYYYYY higher.

But who complain that the MLS is too boring because of low crowd attendance, and DON'T support a team, or the league are HYPOCRITES..I think we can all agree.

People who say that soccer in america, has no passion, or is boring either need to start supporting the league, or of course the sport will have a low following. And with this commericializing of the English game..I mean it was bound to happen.

But trust me, until they start having TV timeouts then the football in england is safe. THE ENGLISH WON'T LET COMMERCIALISM RUIN THEIR FOOTBALL....TRUST ME.

You accused me of faking a geordie accent and reciting "God Save The Quuen" simply because it was the EPL and England's national team and fans that got me "into" soccer. I got bashed for that thread. I dont think people realized what I was trying to say. By the way I am a supporter of the USMNT. Im not too big on MLS though simply because it still feels and looks like minor leagues to me. If I had to pick between watching a "big" MLS game say DC United v LA Galaxy or watching an average EPL game say Tottenham v Blackburn. Id choose the EPL game everytime its simply more entertaining and a better brand of soccer.

You made your first mistake there. No one in Newcastle likes England.

Look, I never claimed to be English. I never said I preffered England to America. I prefer their soccer to ours though. I prefer the atmosphere their fans bring . Thats all. Thats not being a benedict arnold, that's just being real and not some xenophobic bitter american soccer fan who knows deep down there's nothing that cool about the MLS or USMNT right now. So on your guys philosophy and motives, the next time i go to a CD store instead of buying something by Zeppelin or the Beatles or Stones, Ill buy some crap from Foreigner or Aerosmith, because to prefer something English is to be a Benedict Arnold.

As far as Geordie accents and "God Save The Queen" go, I was accused of doing both because, and Im guessing, I put Newcastle down as my favorite club and I wrote that thread about English football culture being the best in the world and it would be a shame to see that change. I'm a USA fan, but now more than ever I do not want to be lumped in with the rest of these Johnny Come Lately wanna bes. Be it England, Newcastle, USA, Torquay United......I'll support whomever I want with no consideration whatsoever to who Tean USA Fans think its ok to support.

That's bollocks, England have filled St James on more than one occasion, and you meet plenty of Geordies on England away days, that was a very, very silly thing to say, just 'cos you're all unemployed.

Maybe no "ruin" but they're letting it RUN their league...

American sports are a totally different animal and IMPOSSIBLE to compare to football. The breaks in the flow of the games allow for the advertisers to run rampant, it's just the way it is. I'm a friggin' RED SOX fan. Probably the most marketed team in all off baseball (along with the Yankees) and with that comes seeing them sell themselves out and crap like that, that maybe I don't like to see but I'll still love them until the day I die. As for MLS... I'm starting to support MLS because I want to see a quality product here in the States. If someone prefers MLS to the Permiership it really doesn't make them crazy.. maybe they'd rather back something U.S. based than join to growing crowd of Americans whom seem to be developing British accents and throwing around words like "mate, wanker, tosser, numpty, etc." and I'm speaking from personal experience not taking a shot at you Jacob.

I don't know where I'm even going with this post anymore, but my bottom line is:

The club(s) you support will NEVER be like they once were, no matter the sport. Just support, cheer, and love them... it's pretty much all we (as fans) have left to do.

As far as the debate over watching MLS or EPL for an american, it all depends on whether my houston dynamo is playing. The orange trumps everything. I regularly attend games, stand with the supporters (Texian army/ El Batallon) and sing for 90+ minutes (takes me awhile to catch on to the spanish songs, rhythmic jibberish works in the mean time). I don't expect us to compete with europe by the time i die (im only 19, too), but i would at least hope we garner some sort of respect or at least be recognized.

I love to watch high caliber soccer (yeah, im still Texan, so 'soccer' it is) in Europe, it is the beautiful game at its finest and trumps all MLS not including my 'orange crush' or those SOBs in dallas.

The EPL is what we strive to be as far as size and passion.
we are forming our own traditions though, mostly based on the locales of each team. Toronto has an atmosphere much closer to england than anyone else, houston and DC have wonderful latin american bases, Chicago's polish make up the base of their fans, you get the point.
It is a situation where if the league keeps growing, each stadium (at least based on supporters) will look like a completely different section of the world.

after re-reading this i realize that this has little to do with the topic at hand (americanistic commercialism in english football), and was a bit like I was trying to sell MLS to y'all, so take it with my apologies.
