I think this guy deserves as much respect as beckenbauer in germany, for saving the collective ass of the german national team for the future through his actions from 2004-2006.

It also started without Eilts and Kohler due to injuries right before the tourney's start if I'm not mistaken!!

pre WC 2006??? I am assuming you meant as a coach and not as a player pre WC 90, right?
I watched Germany play the Confederations Cup in 2005 and I could tell it was a new way of playing for Germany. I was never sure if the coach being a forward or the coach being a defender had much to do with his way of managing a team. Under Vogts, Germany was very conservative, under Voeller and Ribbeck, Germany was without identity. With Klinsman as a coach, Germany showed attacking football and a new way of thinking in terms of on-pitch behaviour. Having played in Italy, England and Germany and several international competitions, he brought in fresh blood and hungry young kids with a desire to win. A great motivator, he also brought the best from other places such as the US to a country that was always so closed minded.
Many criticised Klinsman pre-WC for many reasons. I wasn't one of them.

basler, riedle, bobic (who was top scorer of bundesliga that year) and someone else before the tournament
kohler after the first game
eilts I'm not sure if he missed any games before the semifinal but he played in the semi banged up. Same for helmer who had his legs all wrapped up.
klinsmann missed 2 games including the semi.
moeller missed the final
and about 5 others i forget now :D

Moller and his favorite move to the English fans .... stand like a man, his hands around his hips and moving his head like saying THATS WHAT YOU DESERVE SUCKERS!
