View Full Version : Team for next season

Assuming the Parker deal is true, where does that leave our team for next season.

The starting midfield will be pretty much set.

Yossi
Noble
Parker
Boa Morte

The defence is guaranteed to include

Neill
Upson

and the forward line will consist of

Ashton

So that leaves a CB and a LB and a forward. Not much room for an explosion of new talent me thinks. I can only see any other signings being squad players replacing the squad players we're dumping.

But I am going with a hunch we end up with Luke Young as well. Can he and Neill play in the same back four?

And I think Gabbidon will show enough in pre-season to perhaps get the nod. But I guess there is the one place the team can never be too good. Except who do you get instead of Gabbidon or Collins?

And that leaves the other forward...Tevez, need I say more?

So we have;

Green

Neill
Gabbidon
Upson
Young

Yossi
Noble
Parker
Boa Morte

Ashton
Tevez (it's the silly season so we can still believe)

Or are we set for radical changes? And if they could stay healthy, (like I said, it's the silly season) how competitive could this team be?

I agree that Young is a good player and he wants to play for us but he is a right back by trade.

Is it a bit of an experiment putting him in the left back position?

Yeah, I'm not sure they would play him as a LB and I was not meaning to imply that would be the way, I was just lisitng players. I do wonder if he and Neill can play in the back four together. Can Neill play LB?

Anyhow, today I'm not so sure about Young coming over.

But I still stand by my previous assertion that there won't be as much change to the staring 11 that ended the season as has been speculated.

It seems that at least 8 of our starting 11 are set. Unless Curbs and Eggy plan on trumping those players with better, assuming they can get some, I don't see big changes coming.

Those missing 3 players from the starting 11 are what I'm waiting to see. Who are they and will they push us on to a top 10 finish?

Regarding players on their way out...

Carroll, Konchesky, and Pantsil are the only confirmed departures at this point. Correct?

NRC is most likely gone.

What about: Dailly, Bowyer, Newton, Cole, Harewood, others?

You know from a list of NRC, Mullins, Quashie and Bowyer the player I would most like to see stay is Bowyer.

I know he has proven just how mediocre he can be this season but he wants to play for us and would be good cover for central midfield. We could use him as a utility player to cover the right side as well if, and only if, we get plagued with injuries.

My mind is on the opening game against Charlton where he supplied three assists. NRC and Mullins on the other hand are executive members of 'the clique' and Quashie was just a mistake.

Dailly is another priceless player which we will have to work hard to keep.;) Super Dailly can play anywhere on the pitch and what's more he is willing to do so. He has fought for the cause longer than any of our existing players and even lost teeth in a CCC game for us.

He has scored goals for us (even if he has given away more:o ) and who could forget the winner he scored against Ipswich in the playoff semi-final? He got winded by the ball but still stayed upright long enough to shoot and score.

What more can we ask from a player? Long may his West Ham career live on!!!

If the KUMB INK's are to be believed Shorley will be our LB next season, one can certainly hope so

With all the names being thrown around as possibly coming to the Hammers, none really fit the 3 or 4 world class players that Eggy said we will be after.

When you do the math, it has been reported that 30 million is available for new players, if money from players going is added to that, we could possibly be looking at 50 million to spend, it really raises some interesting possibilities.

For those who say we cant compete with the big 4 when signing a player, remember, Tevez and Masher DID come to us and Neill choose us over Liverpool.

Don't be surprised if at least 1 really big name comes to the Hammers before the start of the season.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar

That is 16 letters, a pretty big name indeed.

you will need to replece all the back line if you want to survive next season.

Surely not Shorley? Surely you mean Shorey?!?

Sorry folks but it is a Friday!!:D

Last thing I read about Shorey was that Reading we going to offer him a new improved contract. So I would expect him to accept it. But then again...

Overlooking the fact that he almost had his foot amputated, it seems he is from the East End. Maybe this may help us sign him...or am I really clutching at straws now?

With all the names being thrown around as possibly coming to the Hammers, none really fit the 3 or 4 world class players that Eggy said we will be after...If the Hammers can hold on to Tevez, I'd count that as one. And if they get him, Darren Bent could be considered another.

The problem is, that even with the cash, they need to win games in order to get considered by "world class" players. Signings like Parker, Joey Barton, and Luke Young would be a step in the right direction. Landing these three would make West Ham more appealing, but the bottom line is they need to win games. Sign a good base of players now, then go for a big splash in the winter market.

That's true (Chadwell). This is probably part of the reason why Eggy has mapped out a three year plan to turn is into a top 6 (or maybe 4!!) club.

What about a few players from the all conquering Barnstonworth United team of 1922.
