According to the Major League Lacrosse website:
The MLL will add two more expansion teams for the 2008 season. Cities currently under consideration include: Cincinnati, Dallas, Portland, Salt Lake, San Diego, Seattle and St. Louis.

A lacrosse field is 110 yards (100 m) long and 60 yards (54 m) wide.

This would fit nicely in a SSS in Collinsville and be an additional source of revenue for the owners.

McGinty - does Saint Louis United Soccer know about this? What about the City?

I'm assuming they do, but you never know.

It looks like their season runs mid-May to mid-Aug with games played on Saturdays and the occasional Friday and Sunday. Easy enough to work around conflicts.

This could be an interesting side bar. If Cooper has an interest in both clubs, it could help his bottom line. MLL is starting to take off. I know lacrosse has been popular in the county for some time, but it's starting to get a foothold in Illinois also. Word is O'Fallon Township High School will start club lacrosse next year for girls and boys.

Here's the problem with Lacrosse - too many lines and a goal crease (that get seriously worn down) right in the 18.

What about the Women's Soccer team Cooper owns, over in West County I think. He could bring them over as well.

According to the MLL website, the LA Riptide Lacrosse Team plays at Home Depot Center. That's 2 MLS teams and 1 MLL team on the same field. And the Chicago Machine is going to play at Toyota Park. So there must be a way to make it work without tearing up the pitch too much.

isn't there a FIFA-endorsed turf type surface that is more durable?

I just remember seeing what Denver's team did to the field at Invesco

The LA team does play at the HDC but not on the soccer pitch. There is another field outside the stadium which has bleacher stands and I think holds about 7000 fans, on which they play on. I saw a LA game on VS and it sure wasnt on the soccer pitch. Now Chicago is another story, it only has that one main pitch.

I'd love to hear Lacrosse players complaining about the footy lines all over the field. :p

I thought the MLL was a mostly east coast league. I don't think it would hurt an MLS team at all. There are quite a few cities vying for an MLL team as well.

Ok Seattle, we will trade you an MLL team for an MLS team. Deal!

I didn't realize the LA lacrosse team played on a side field. I didn't look that close when I went to the MLL websites. But if what is rumored in Collinsville is true with a main stadium and a surrounding complex, then perhaps one could be designated for a lacrosse team. But then additional seating would have to be figured into the cost. Seems like the A-B Soccer Park would make a good location for a lacrosse team from a seating capacity point of view, but you're still faced with the problems of tearing up the pitch.

We can deal with that later - If we can us this NOW to help get a team, I'm all for it. ;)
