Boca vs. Cucuta 5/31/07

So, the semifinals are here. Cucuta is the surprise of the tournament and they are playing well, but Boca should be the favorite.

i think this Cucuta team is a better offensive team than Libertad, but probably less solid defensively. It will provide a different set of challenges. Boca should score on them, but their offense will test our defense more than Libertad did.


Aparently Russo is thinking of resting Banega, and playing Battaglia. Morel also will be back. At least according to this:

I imagine that if Battaglia plays, he will play on hte irght of midfield ... and move Ledesma to the DM position.

This tie is as tricky as that final against Once Caldas in '04. "Unknown" players with a good run and with hunger, that are strong at home and dangerous in counter attack when visiting.

Their playmaker is a quite interesting player ... and there is another one that reminds of of Rincon. In attack, the Panamanian dude is fast and goes to all balls. This is the reason why the DM has to be Ledesma, a lot faster than Banega or Battaglia.

Cucuta are undefeated at home so I don't think Boca will win this but the away goal is crucial.

great game so far but i think the heat is gettin to boca... just made that cucuta is playin scared... ur goalie is hurt they should kick the ball from 50 yards away if they get the shot cause he cant jump, think if they keep their gk that Cucuta can win... tho I think they need at least 2+ goals goin to argentina for any shot to win... cause that is def goin to be hell.. Cucuta has already done better than any one expected and more presure is on them than any one else, so Cucuta should use that to their advantage... tho Boca is cleary supieor

Yeah Daniel "Cata" Diaz. But he almost gave up a goal in that play which Cordoba hit the post.


Bobadilla comes in for Caranta. Too bad because he made a few brilliant saves. Hopefully Bobadilla can do the same.

I too agree Datolo would be the prescise sub for Cardozo who hasn't done anything.

The difference was huge when Bobadilla came on for Caranta. He messed up on both goals. In the third goal he left a huge space on the left and didn't even try to jump. The ball just flew past him.

good game but i would have prefered a 2-0 than a 3-0 .... its going to be hell in argentina ... especially because both cucuta and boca are fighting to be champions of eachs league. I am kind of upset that Bernal takes so long to make subs he should ahve put Pojol who is super fast in around min 60 and took out martinez who had no gas left in him and he waited till the 80 min. Also Cucuta has to stop givin so many fouls so close to goal because a brasil/argie... that close is murder..

cant wait for next game... and what happened to ur goalie cause I didnt see him ever get hit and the only shot at him was the one at the 1st min

The easy way out will be to blame Bobadilla for the defeat. It is true he made conceptual mistakes in both goals, but the most worrisome to me was the ineffective midfield thru out the 2nd half.

The heat caused serious damage in the physical response. And Cucuta found the spaces to punish. But, why use Silvestre, your last sub, instead of fresh legs in the middle? Banega was just window shopping all second half, which forced the defense to break-up to cover spaces. And one of the other two subs was, unfortunately, for a goalie. Boca was always on its backheels. Fresh legs were needed. Could had been worst.

The tie can be reverted at home. The key is equilibrium in the midfield. Hopefully Russo understands that Banega can't steal one ball against the physically stronger Colombians. 90 minutes could be enuff ... because Cucuta's defense is quite primitive.

i agree with u about Cucutas D.. its awful especially the 2 center backs, I was worried all game thinkin they were goin to give pks... but our left and right backs are very good attackin wise... I'm not to crazy about the goalie either the goalie let in 2 really easy goals the last 2 games... he was right in front of the boca player and just looked at him doin nothin... and then against Nacional he tried to be a hero and stop a shot with 1 hand and missed.. sadly our Nt caoch wants him at copa america over an extremly promsing David Ospina who is the #1 at the biggest club in colombia Nacional

you are right, boca is the one with pressure. i didnt see the game, but my dad did, and he said that even though bobadilla made an error you cant blame the loss on them. this is probably the worst result for boca and best for us. since you guys have to win in bs and are hella tired.
