I hope Beasley tells Rangers to ******** off. I don't think the league suits his playing style and Rangers supporters rank right up there with Lazio, Millwall, and Chelsea for ultra right wing nut job supporters.

I think he was just being a dick for effect, but I wondered what the atmosphere at Ibrox was these days. I haven't lived in Scotland for over a decade and it was certainly dicey for a time there all around the league, but lately I've only heard of a few rare incidents, and mostly racists stupidity at other clubs. It my impression things changed pretty well during the Dickie A years in terms of hooliganism and sectarian incidents.

Am I wrong?

There are a few but most were kicked out and moved on to 'support' Airdrie United.

Am I wrong?every group has there nutters and the Gers have theres, but I would say that most if not all of there support have a right of center slant politically specking....they have been takeing to task by UEFA for the sectarian nonsense..it appears that the top guys at Ibrox are going after the situation...but I would say its better then 10-20 years ago..

Aye, there are still a few stupid people out there. I was at the Ranger's Galaxy game and I would be lying if I didn't here the word fenian being said at least once. That being said I gave the guy who said it a boot up the backside and told him I was with my kid and didn't want to hear it. The guy actually sounded American and I think he didn't know what to do when I told him to stop in a "Norn Iron" accent. I will say this I didn't hear it after that, but we as an audience of Football need to say what is going to work and what isn't, just like when I won't let anyone slag off Martin O'Neil. Some people aren't happy about change but it has changed, and I am glad of it.

Things have not changed completely but they are changing. I am glad as well. There are a lot of reasons to hope and it is an exciting time to be alive.

Let's not forgot:

A SUPPORTER of Airdrie United yesterday became the first person in Scotland to be banned from every UK football ground. Izak Cowie, 38, is a member of the club's notorious "Section B" casuals. It is the first such order since legislation was introduced on 1 September allowing Scottish police forces to apply to have anyone convicted of a football- related offence banned from stadiums for up to ten years...

The writ alleged that he invaded the pitch at Somerset Park in Ayr in May 2002 - a match between Ayr United and the former Airdrieonians, which had to be abandoned. The writ also said Cowie was captured on CCTV making "Nazi" salutes at a match between Airdrie United and Dundee at New Broomfield in February.

I thought it had gotten better. When I was there it was crazy everywhere, but esp. in Glasgow - you wouldn't even wear green or blue anywhere. But Edinburgh was not much better.

I saw some of the recent events noted - in motherwell and Edinburgh, but it seems like folks jump on it a lot quicker nowdays. Good to see.

I think jaypro's sig is right, you are a stalker.

And yes you are wrong.

Far as im aware they are the only club in the country that the BNP sells its magazines to their supporters outside the ground on gamedays.

Really? You don't think things have improved at all, or just not that much? When I lived in Scotland I got punched in the head from behind twice just for wearing a blue scarf. And I saw plenty of stupidity the other way as well.

It really seemed they were working very hard to control it.

(and when was the last time you saw me behind you? You might want to consider maybe you're just paranoid.)

It has its share but I don't anywhere near a majority are ultra right wing, in fact I'd say the number is very low.

Many are conservative, many reactionary, some bigoted. But to lump them in with the ultra far right is nonsense.

No friggin' kidding. I learned that really quick! I wore only saffron for an entire year! On the plus side I sold a lot of flowers and incense!

things have improved a lot here , people think old firm fans dont get on , my friends support rangers and that doesn't make them bad people, we are all 90 minute bigots , and then we are friends again.

That's the sense I've gotten lately. As I said, I haven't spent any real time in Scotland since the late 80's, but it seems much, much better. It feels like the "Ultras" in Italy are worse these days, but I haven't lived there in a really long time, so it's hard for me to say.

It's a load of sterotypical garbage. The Old Firm situation is a complicated one and it's certaintly not one of huggy lovable white hat wearing Celtic against big bad racist black hat wearing Rangers. There might be an element of racism in the Gers support but there also might be an element of terrorist worship in the some of the songs Celtic sing. There are jerks and undesirables in any teams support worldwide and whoever wrote that is ingnorant IMO.

That's really encouraging! Big rivalry is ok, hatred & violance not!

Btw: I've got a similar story. My brother and a few good friends are Nürnberg supporters, whereas I support their rivals SpVgg Greuther Fürth from my local town (after Borussia, of course). During former 2nd league derbies, we were "enemies" for 90 minutes (most of these derbies were won by the 'underdogs' from Fürth) ... but after the match, you could see us as the best friends again in diverse pubs! ;)

I know that you can't compare it with the "special" Old Firm rivalry ... however, it shows that football is no politics but only a game!
