We've been kicking this around at work today and here's what we came up with:

Houston Hurricanes
AC Houston
Houston Hotspur
Houston Tejanos
Houston Toros
Houton Vaqueros
Real Houston
Houston Generals

And the best of all (just imagine the mascot)...

Houston Jalapenos

OK - flail away, but at least offer your own suggestions.

I like Houston Toros. Their team colors could be red and black...wait...nevermind.

Ok then since red and black aren't much of an option, how about white and blue....ugh nevermind again. GRRRR DAMNIT!! Ok then Hot Pink and Purple! Oooh there's an idea. How about Regal purple and white? Oooh or silver and burgundy? Yes. I think I like silver and burgundy better.

Sorta like this one: (but not sleeveless) http://allsoccerwear.com/16_92x105.jpg

The Houston Smog, because of the oil, and the pollution, uh, nevermind.

How about green as a color. Oh wait, that was tried already?

Crazy that we have 10 teams and only 6 color schemes at most.

Red and Black - Burn, Metros, DC
Red and Blue - Fire
Blue and Black - San Jose and Colorado
Yellow and Green - LA
Blue and White - KC, San Jose
Yellow and Black - 'Bus

How about purple? How about light blue? How about orange? Anything but Red or blue please.

In a nod to the English game I vote for Houston Hotspur. They can butcher it with a cowboy in spurs or something like that, but the name has a great history.

I like Toros and Hurricanes, but I'd also suggest Cosmos:

(1) like Toros and Hurricanes, it can work well enough in Spanish, but

(2) it also keeps the Space City theme that we seem to like here, and,

(3) most importantly, it would kill off all future NY Cosmos revival threads. :D

Houston Dragons
Houston Apollos
Houston Outlaws
Houston Roughriders
Houston Scorpions
Houston Spurs
Houston Thunder
Houston Tornados
Houston Wranglers
Houston Wolves

my pick would be Apollos...

I'll already had this in an earlier thread about MLS expansion. The Houston Hotspurs.
Some of the other names were:
Minnesota North Stars
LA Club America
Atlanta Flames (hey Hotlanta!)
and my favorite...
Sporting Rochester

Calling it a football club in Texas is asking for trouble.:) They can get away with that in upstate NY but not in Texas.
